Ok, well im look at getting rid of the 94 gt, and upgrading into a 1999 or 2001 cobra. Id love an 02-04, but couldnt afford one.

Anyway, my first question is, is there any major changes between the 1999, and the 2001, i know the 01 has 15 more horses, and that the 1999s didnt all have the horsepower that they were said to have. Was there any kind of recall for the 1999s, to fix that?

My next question is, what are the differences in the body from the 99-01 and the 02-04. I know the front bumper is, and im thinking the rear one is too. Anything else im missing? Can you put the 02-04 bumper on an 99-2001.

Finally, any input on them would be great. My parents owned a 99 cobra convert when i was 10, they bought it new. We didnt have it very long because of the top having a major leaking problem. Did anybody else ever have a problem with that, or anything I should know?

Thanks in advance.

as far as the 99 cobras r concerned....i know that a lot of them were recalled for the motors not putting out the correct amount of HP to the wheels. Basically ford just replaced the motors....if im not mistaken. I own a 99 cobra and let me tell you that the power is there but sometimes it does feel a bit slower than what it should be. Just giving ya a heads up.

As far as the body is concerned, in 03/04 the bumpers were changed. The sexier bumpers were put on. The 99 cobras just said mustang in the rear and then they changed it in 00 and it finally said cobra in the rear.

Ok, did anything else really change on the body besides the bumpers then?

After they rec'd the fix, I don't believe there was much difference.. not to sure.. but if you can afford a 01' Cobra which are in the high teens, why not look for a 03/04 Mach 1, they're faster.. and about the same $$

My 04 Mach is a blast to drive and goes pretty damn good for a N/A car.I'm still a hugh fan of the 03-04 cobra's and i hope to have one someday soon. But seeing i just bought my 04 mach a few weeks back the cobra will have to wait.

What kind of power is a stock mach 1 making? I know the 01 cobra is 320ish.

Well with the mods that i have on the Mustang dyno i'm putting down 264 rwhp and 330 at the crank. On the dynojet that would be 288 rwhp and 354at flywheel.I still need to get the car tuned.Oh yeah these times were based on stk mufflers with  high flow cats.I now have flowmaster 40's and a offroad xpipe so i should maybe gain 1or 2 hp,lol.

+2 for the MACH 1 owners. I love the mach1's. I tried looking for one before I nabbed my cobra. They were a bit pricey everywhere I went though. On avg. i was finding em for like 22-25K. I was like FAK that. Don't they come 305 horse to the crank.

If you can get your hands on a mach 1 for a reasonable price then pic it up.

Holy crap there's a lot of inaccurate info in this thread....

There was no 02 Cobra in the US.

They were BOTH rated at 320hp. The 99s were recalled and most got "the fix".

The front bumper is identical. the 01s got smoked headlights and "Mustang" was changed to "Cobra" on the rear.

Not even remotely close. Are you sure you own a Cobra?

"The fix"  included a ECU reflash, a ported intake and a new catback. Most dynoed around 250ish before and 270+ after. A "fixed" Cobra can be identified by a green or blue dot on the intake right behind the alternator.

I got mine used with 49k on it and it dynoed 272/304, bone ass stock.

As far as Cobra vs Mach, both are awesome cars, but I got a Cobra for the IRS and it feels much better to own one.

354 TQ? I'd loooooooove to see that dyno sheet. Rather than call BS, I'll just say that's reeeeeeeeally hard to believe.

I didn't mean to be a dick, but after cruising through some of these posts I blown away by MASSIVE levels of wrong info. I'm no expert, but I know what I'm talking about when I post. The poor guy is trying to make an educated decision on a several thousand dollar car, not a pair of shoes. Let's tighten it up around here....

Bygones....

He rigged the dyno. With those mods you're at 305, 310 tops, including the pullies....
