GP, what do you exspect when people make comments about things they have never worked on/owned. I too have owned many carbed cars and they have been fine. It's like anything else, once you learn how it works and how to work on it, they can be made to perform very very well.

What's more reliable, a carb'd car or a fuel injected car? Carbed cars require more work than FI cars, correct?

LOL!! That is so true, and then he goes and proves the point!!!

On average, fuel injected, but not necessarily so, so a guy really can't just go out and make that statement. But you're pretty much right.

Well, not entirely. I've owned my 66 in it's current configuration (B&P'd 308, P&P'd heads, nice lopey RV cam, 4bbl, headers, auto, P/S P/B, etc) for over ten years and since building the engine, have done NOTHING to it except exchange the 2V setup for the 4V about 5 years ago and change the oil and tune it up twice (plugs, wires, cap and rotor). I haven't even needed to adjust the valves. That sucker is about as reliable as it gets. But right before I sold it, I had to completely go through my 95GT with it's fuel injected 306 and 5-speed T5 because it spun a bearing and needed to be rebuilt. In my case: carbed engine = model consistency and dependability injected engine = problem seeker, sold.
But since I am not trying to ignite anyone's flamethrowers, I will point out that you are generally correct. Technology is beautiful and when I go restomod with this pickup from the ground up, it will be fuel injected.

MAN, that is SO true!! But just because this car has 119K miles on it. GTs on average do tend to lead hard lives, and give a lot of credence to what the sales man said - which even with what he told you is still less than you need to know. Drive the car, run a carfax and do some due diligence. If it drives nice, doesn't smoke, rattle, vibrate, etc and the carfax is clean (and understand sometimes that means nothing too), maybe you're not buying a "project" car - maybe you've stumbled across a deal. But you should be VERY leery because maybe you've stumbled across a money-pit, too. This one requires a thorough going over. I'd take it to an alignment shop, take it to a reputable 3rd party mechanic, get it up on a rack, etc., before I dropped a DIME on it.

You will have NOTHING but problems with it, as my dad had nothing but problems with his '70 Camaro and '77 Vette (Both corburated).
ALSO, carbureted vehicles can be reliable. I have no idea where that notion came from. Maybe all those problems with the maro and vette aren't necessarily carb-related. I have a 66 SWB Ford pickup with a 750 Holley on it that cranks up every time I point the key at it and gets 20 mpg. Carbs these days can have electric chokes for cold start ups, they can be jetted and tuned properly for steady operations, they can have dual metering plates for varying fuel delivery - lots of stuff. They'll never match the consistency or tunability of an fuel injection setup, of course, but to say carburetors will give a person nothing but trouble is a little bit of an overstatement.
tell that to my '86 buick with it's 2bbl..

I never pass up an opportunity to educate and help dispel notions, though. Always on point and, as you should find to your liking, with no flames!
Plus, Shelty quoted where I gave comi some honest advice - don't necessarily turn away, but be thorough. SO, advice PLUS education. good things, stallion, good things! even though Shelty's post, and this one, your last one for that matter, are whore posts! LOL!

You guys... the point is not the carb.. its that Comi wanted a GT... dont let side conversation drag this thread down
Yeah like wtf.
I went by another dealer today and they had some 04 GT, it looked lowered and it had I guess flows, sounded more like bassani. IDK. I didnt get to drive it(yet) but it seemed nice. It had a nice interior. It seemed more cosey(sp?) that my car did. I never realized how hard it is to find a GT in my town.
