Whats sucks for the z06 is that its around 60,000 for it, and that is jsut insane taht 2 o3 cobras just about right there if you ad up right, Rediculous, but if you g9ot the money why not. But i spend it better ways...gt500 shelby(65)restoed
Im wondering how in the hell a Z06 would not un at least a 12.0. A stock C5 is supose to run mid 12's all day. If they didnt that would mean im running right beside a Vette and that doesnt make any sense!!!
a stock C5 will run 13 - 13.2, you are thinking of the new C6 which will run 12.7 give or take a tenth. a C5 zo6 will run about 12.5 give or take a tenth, two different body styles and two different motors. you are running with a stock C5.
So in other words, my bolt on GT running 13.0 will hang with or beat a Vette? Sounds pleasing enough. LOL
I still can't believe you run high 13's in warm weather, and low 13's in cold weather. I need to go run during the winter....my last time to the track was in the middle of August.

A bit more on topic, most Vette drivers never wanna race or drive fast. They are usually old guys driving really slow in the far right lane. Why do they even buy those cars? What a waste of eight cylinders.
all I get is a 50 50 mix of old guys that don't race and young punks that think they are faster then speedracer... When I was getting my tattoo a few years back I was talking to a guy with a C4 talking about all this work he had a local shop do yada yada yada.. and that he should be running 11's yada yada.. stock tranny, stock rear, stock gears, just a cam, roller rockers and expensive exhaust.. no head work no nothing.. silly young guy.
as far as the C5's, alot like the LS1's you can do a lot with just exhaust and air intake.. I can see 11's very easy with minor mods on a Z06.. but I just can not rationalize 11's stock without something "extra" going on.
I can't even make my 83 vette run 11's stock and the 83 is the best vette EVER..

Here is the sad part.
I have actually laid my own 2 eyes on an '83 Corvette. There was a kid in High School that used to argue Vettes with us in study hall. He said his dad had 30 Corvettes including 1 of 4 '83's that actually got built. We were calling BS for a year until he told his dad about it and he invited us over to see them. So of course we went. Turns out his dad was some designer for GM and really did have a collection of about 30 Corvettes. We went to his house, and his dad took us out behind his house where stood a pole barn. He opened the door, turned off this crazy lazer alarm system, and my jaw hit the floor. He gave us a little speach about each car that was there and none of them were just factory Corvettes. He had a '66 Coupe with Zora Duntov's signature on it, and all kind of crazy stuff to go along with them. He also had an '83 with the Vin number ending in 000003 or something like that. It was actually pretty cool looking. Looked just like an '84, but with different wheels, and some other goofy stuff on it. No digital dash, and I don't recall exactly what he said about the engine, but they couldn't get the Cross Fire Injection to work right with the Computer, so it never really ran right. He said he put about 6 miles on it, then into the barn it went.
Cool stuff I tells ya. I'd love to see whats been added to that collection in the 15 years since I've seen it.

That one?
Come to think of it, it didn't really look like that. It was white, but it didn't have those wheels, and the interior was red. It had what looked like modified '82 wheels.
44 cars were assembled, all pilot cars. the 83 DID have digital dash. Of the 44 cars built, 11 were retained by the Bowling Green plant for assembly process evaluations and other tests. The remaining 33 went to engineering for crash tests and other engineering appraisals...

This new Corvette was due to be released in the fall of 1982, however continued high sales of the 1982 model and ramp up problems at the new Bowling Green assembly plant forced the introduction date to be pushed back to March 1983 as 1984 models. For that reason, all but one of the 44 1983 pilot cars were destroyed. Only serial number 23 was retained by the assembly plant as a relic of the past

It's possible that it wasn't really an '83. I'd find it hard to believe it wasn't. My guess is that it wasn't a production model. Probably an early concept with some goofy serial number on it. I read that the remaining 33 were destroyed. But you're telling me that one or two of them didn't make it out of the plant and into someones garage? Those guys aren't stupid. They know they'll get half a million for it in 30 years.
