hey, im 16 and i love classic mustangs, ive worked my azz off and i have purchased a 1966 coupe and a 1972 mach1, i am restoring the 66 and i hope one day ill get it done, it seems like its sooooooooo far away and i think i need some encouragement, lol

Cohen your motivation is right here: I envy you, I'm 15 and hope to one day get my own, you can say your life is better than mine because you've got the cars of your dreams and remember Don't let the fear of Striking out keep you from playing the game.

Well, I'm 27, not as old as some of you folks, but older than others. I myself like 60's and some 70's cars. A buddy I go to church with is a year older than me and has a 60's Ranchero. So, it's not lost on all the new generation. And honestly, my 67 is a beater. It still has the factory paint...well, most of it at least....crappy black steel wheels, it's got a few dents and scratches(body work will come when I have the money for it). But, and here's the big but...I like having a car that from the practical, 1, I don't have to smog(live in Cali) which 2, lets me stick whatever I want in it. 3, it's easy and cheap to work on 4, I own it outright. Old cars are just more fun to drive I think, you have to actually DRIVE it, not sit in it and sorta point it in a direction and let the car do its own thing. I like having a healthy carbureted V8 that rumbles at idle and screams when I open it up. It's different than what most have, ie Beamers, Lexuses, Toyotas etc. It's not rice and that's a good thing. And it's certainly not a homogeneous clone like most cars today, which is why the new Mustangs are so popular, they look DIFFERNT, and go back to a time when there was more unique STYLE. And that leads to this, one thing I know we can all agree on, the older Mustangs just plain look GOOD. It's hard to find a new car these days that actually has the same flare, the same style, with the subtlety and class of an old Mustang, without being gawdy and over the top. Old Mustangs just have a nice unique style all their own and just plain look better than most cars these days. and I think are more fun to drive, there's something about knowing that you have to control that throttle and wheel kicking the back end through a turn cuz you don't have traction control and anti-lock brakes. They're simple yet elegant at the same time.

Oh yes, and they're light, which makes them fast when they have power, if you're like me and care about that sorta thing

I am very impressed by the depth of feelings expressed by our group of non-conformists.

I forgot to add that one woman in the group (with way too much Botox) suggested that only "trailor tash" and Mexicans drive muscle cars and complained about the noise and smoke these "old" cars make!  I didn't even respond to such ignorance.

I think she needed a good romp in the back seat in one of these vintage cars to put a smile back on that prune face!

Sounds like she just needed a good seeing to, regardless of location.
Did you stitch her up?
Perhaps a good turkey slap to loosen the botox?

Haha, I just love going fast and prefer the roar of an all American V8 over a whining 4 cyl!!! And on top of that, those California girls don't quite know what to think about this crazy red-neck boy in his noisy muscle car with TEXAS plates!

I agree, it is REALLY hard to beat the sound of healthy American V8 power!!!

agreed - if the rumble of an old V8 doesnt stir your heartbeat and put a grin on your face you got problems....

these old cars just have a soul, character, whatever you want to call it - they have stories to tell.  Working on mine I still wonder about the people that first assembled her, and the previous owners  - what did the first owner feel on the first drive and could they have imagined it w/ a T5 and power discs!   Plus it's just plain fun making it a one of a kind - and the styling destroys anything made nowadays.  Sure I'd like to own a saleen S7 - but if I had that kind of money, I'd still keep my 68 and really treat her right.   Someday, hopefully my car will move on better than I found it to a new home - better if it's a family member, but as long as it's someone that knows how to treat her right!

i absolutely hate it when people associate old cars with breaking down,  its like they dont understand that they cna be fixed and run JUST as reliable as their new car.

to qualify as a muscle car i think you need 350HP at least

Do they have a dyno? I've been there quite a few times, but I didn't know they had a dyno...

I think that old cars have soul and that is why I like them. This soul is in part due to the imperfections, they way each one is different even from the factory. Also when you work on the car, to a less degree in my case compared to others here, you form a bond with it yes it is only metal but.....
