About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra...

Cleeve -> About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/26/2007 12:39:12 PM)

...what do you guys think it's worth?

Interior is OK but needs some work. A couple handles missing like for the lights. Some guages added, unfortunately a large tach on the dash.
Body seems very solid though, no rust to speak of - I think it was worked on maybe 10 years ago, restored. Very straight lines, doesn't look hit.

The hoodscoop was reversed because someone made it semi-functional: they cut a hole beneath it so it feeds into an edelbrock triangular air cleaner. Beneath that is an edelbrock 4bbl carb, aluminum intake, and headers. the headers feed into the side-pipes, which are functional and not for show. Should have taken a picture of the engine bay but I didn't, sorry. It seemed to start pretty easily.

The owner doesn't know anything about cars and has no idea if the internals were modified. It was like this when he bought it.

The car looks really bad in the pictures because it's quite dusty and the flash bought it out, but if it was clean it'd be alot better looking - the finish isn't that bad.

This thread is useless without pics... so here they are:

Anyhoo... what would you fellas pay for this vehicle? Whaddya think it's worth?

Thanks gents!

please send some interior and motor shots to m.westphel@insightbb.com and where car is at

well im seeing a king cobra air dam thats not trashed, a rear spoiler that doesnt look broken, it has a V8, T-Tops, and it looks clean on the outside. if you pay 5k i think your getting a deal - no matter what the inside looks like. thats my rough guess.

whats the guy asking for it?

Cleeve -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/26/2007 9:38:22 PM)

Yep, rear spoiler and front air dam is fine. I'm seeing nicer King Cobras that have sold on ebay for $5k though, with decals and stuff intact. So I'm thinking this is more in the $3500 range...

Asking price for this bad boy is $2900, I'm hoping I can get it for less than that. I think I'll go for it... I'll let you guys know. Thanks!

P.S. mycobraproject: I'm not selling it, I'm thinking of buying it...

my77stang -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/26/2007 10:33:07 PM)

i tend to put a higher value on these cars and i believe they deserve it. do a vin check and see if it REALLY is a king cobra - that would excellent. if he wants 2900 you should be able to get it for 2700 no problem.

Blue coyote -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/26/2007 11:30:51 PM)

I don't think a simple VIN check will ID a King.  Only ways I know to tell are the Buck tag, invoice, Marti report, build sheet, and possibly the trim code on the door plate (not sure on that last one, though).

The chrome taillight bezels don't look promising, but when it comes down to it, it sounds like a good deal for a somewhat modified V8 T-top with several good-condition exterior options (air dam, spoiler, scoop, side louvres, locking gascap)

Hmmm... nice catch, I missed that.

Definitely will have to see the car again and do some more research...

i just realized it has a 5 lug conversion

Cleeve -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/27/2007 10:22:12 AM)

Uhoh... someone pointed out to me, that looks like a woodgrain dash too.

Blue coyote -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/27/2007 12:05:51 PM)

Looking at it again, I can't shake the thought that if it fires up and will roast the tires, I'd seriously consider spending a few thousand on it whether its a "real" King Cobra or not.

The only way it truly matters one way or the other is if you intend to restore it to showroom original stock.

Do you like the car for what it IS? (a pretty cool go-fast II)
Is it solid?
Can it be driven safely?
Can you afford it?
Have you got room to park it?
Will a "significant other" castrate you for bringing it home?

Cleeve -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/27/2007 2:13:15 PM)

Well, it's just a bit easier to justify if it's an investment, and if it's an authentic KC then it's a much better investment.

Personally, for my own enjoyment I don't give a rat's patoot if it's a numbers matching car or not. Looks the same to me, and if she has it where it counts it saves me alot of $$ I would have had to spend on the drivetrain if I bought an authentic KC.

I think I'll check it out, if it's a real KC I'll offer the fella maybe $2500 and see if he'd take it. If it's not authentic, I'll show him the numbers to prove it, and offer less...

Looks like a fun car. A lot of potetial there. I have owned a hatchback and a cobra II, they are fun to drive. Both were V8 cars, not the fastest cars but they were both 2bbl. Even without much power they burned up tires and ate up Camaros. With the 4bbl and the 5 lug it might just be a monster.I don't own them now but I do miss them. I would buy it.

my77stang -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/28/2007 3:13:16 PM)

nice to see support from a classic owner [:)]

73 Sportroof -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/29/2007 7:49:30 AM)

The newest Mustang II is almost 30 years old. The classic people need to realize that they are Mustang history. In 1974 that is what people wanted, and that is what Ford gave them. If the Mustang II wasn't a success I don't think there would have been anymore, so anyone with a newer Mustang should be grateful.

The Mustang II "IS" a classic.

my77stang -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/29/2007 9:55:41 AM)

THANK YOU!!!!!!

this has been what i have been saying all along [8D]

since the fox body ran all the way to 93, i really dont consider a 79 a classic because it looks similar to what you still see driving all around, but 78 or earlier you just dont see running around. not to mention everyone crushes them cause they are "just a mustang II" which is going to make them that much harder to find than the classics. i mean, your almost never going to run out of 64 1/2 - 66 coupes ya know?

73 Sportroof -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (5/29/2007 10:18:01 PM)

I was always told that it was a glorified Pinto. That is until I would fill the street full of smoke from the tires. Mine were both autos and I could put my foot on the brake stomp the gas and it would go up to 80mph in a hurry without moving an inch. After a display like that no one ever wanted to race. I had a friend with a 70 Camaro 350 and I spanked him . He said thats what happens when you put a V8 in a pop can. Like the 70 Camaro wasn't a light car. I also beat another friends 78 Camaro but that is a heavy car. The guy with the 78 put a bunch of money into it then decided to get a 2001 Mustang GT convertable and never looked back.

Props to the Mustang II no matter what anyone else says.

Just an update: Buck Tag says it's a King Cobra.  [:D]

73 Sportroof -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (6/1/2007 2:49:04 PM)

my77stang -> RE: About to pull the trigger on this King Cobra... (6/1/2007 6:36:07 PM)
