Default Noise Question (probably stupid???)

Hi, I am new to this and to the Mustang. Had a '94 before but it was nothing like this! Just bought a 2005 v-6 automatic. My question is this: When I turn the key, right before it gets ready to crank over, there is a noise that only lasts a few seconds, seems to becoming from under the backdrivers seat area, sounds like something turning on??? It does this everytime I turn the key before it starts. And sometimes it takes two times to get it to start??? Any ideas, I was thinking something along the fuel pump area? Car has been modified with Magnaflow dual exhaust, if that's any help? Not sure at this momentwhat else has been added. Any info will be useful!
Thanks!

It's the fuel pump. It's normal.

Default RE: Noise Question (probably stupid???)

I have another question, so figured I'd just add to this post since it is sort of related.
The new question is: Now that i know the noise is the fuel pump turning on (I guess?), once I wait a secondfor the fuel pump noise to stop, then continue turning the key to start, it fires right up, with a nice mellow rumbling from the exhaust. If I just turn the key straight to the start mode, with out waiting that few seconds for the fuel pump to engage, it won't start immediately. I have to turn it back off and restart. There are 4 positions on the key cylinder; so to start I have to go 1,2,3 pause for the fuel pump,4 and it fires right up. If I go 1,2,3,4 with no pause, it doesn't want to start.
I went down to our local "hillbilly" dealership(not where i got the car)and drove a 2005 v6 auto that they have on their used lot(same as mine without the dual exhaust) and it turned over no problem, plus I could not hear the fuel pump noise. Any ideas what the hell??? Not a mechanic so not sure if this is all because of some modifiactions somewhere???

I got an 07 v6 in january (used w/ 6k miles) and I also here the fuel pump starting up. That's normal. However, I've never had the car not start the first time. I always turn the key to the 3rd postition, wait for all the gauges to activate and wait for the last "beep" then I crank it. I dont know if this does any good, but I figure it gets the juice flowing before I start up.

That's how I start mine too. Have you ever tried not waiting that few seconds in the 3rd position? The car starts everytime as long as I pause in 3rd. If I don't it still turns over, just has a hard time, almost like it is getting flooded. It is much easier if I just restart the process. Never had a car do this before so was just wondering. My old 94 GTdidn't do this, so wasn't sure if it was more modern technology or what?

It could be a newer car thing. This is my first semi-new car and first stang, so Y'm not going to pretend that I know my way around it yet. However, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Congrats on the purchase!

Still in question over the starting issue!!!

It is highly embarrassing to be in a full parking lot, everyone googling at the car, then go to start it and it doesn't want to co-operate. I turn the key to the 3rd position , pause until I hear the fuel pump noise stop, then try to start. It wants to start but takes a good 5-10 seconds of cranking before it fires. Seems like it gets worse as the days go on. I took it in and they checked the battery (500 cranking amp battery) came up great. Good charge, holding full charge, good health, good all around. Then today I noticed a new quirk, gave it gas at the traffic light to make it go and it hesitated, then suddenly lunged forward ready to go no problem. Could this all be related??? Only had the car 3 weeks, and put 1000 miles on it. Haven't noticed any other problems, no misfiring, gets great gas mileage, etc...
Could this all be because I'm used to drivinga SUV for 5 years and it had the battery of a Mack truck and started instantly? Or is htere an actual issue with the Mustang???
Anyone got any clues??? We only have one local, farm rancher owned Ford dealer here and they aren't too impressive.

It's a bad fuel pump. There was a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on this. The dealership should have recognized this the first time you brought it in. It's an easy fix once you get the dealership to pony up.

Isa TSB the same as a Recall? I ran the vin throught he recall check and nothing came up. Thanks for the input, I'll try to locate the TSB and make a copy so I have some sort of leg to stand on.
Do you know also, as stated above, do I have to pause at the 3rd location for the fuel pump to engage? Never had to do it with other vehicles, not sure if it is definately a mustang thing?

a tsb is different from a recall, and the lunging from the stop light sounds like a recent tsb that they have. a tsb is a technical service bulletin
