I am furious and my eyeballs feel like they're gonna pop out of my head if I don't tell someone about my rage!
Late yesterday afternoon I was swapping the stock midpipe out of my car and had placed it on the floor of the open garage next to the replacement (aluminized steel Pypes H-pipe). I needed a break so I went inside to the adjoining kitchen to have a cold brew. An hour and a half later I return to the garage to find the stock midpipe missing! I can't believe my eyes. Cops and neighbors say I'm a ding-dong for leaving my garage open and I probably am. But how did someone make off with that heavy, unweildy, clanging midpipe while I was in the VERY NEXT ROOM?
I still have my offroad H-pipe though I'd like to have my original midpipe if I need to go back to stock at some point in the future. Can anyone help a brother out and suggest a vendor or forum member from whom I could get a reasonably priced new take-off midpipe?
Sounds like you need the large, barking dog mod. Sorry for the loss, but I suspect you'd need look no further than a neighborhood teenager as the culprit.
Yeah, the officer I spoke with asked if I knew who helped themselves to my midpipe and I said "no" but I agree it was most easily perfomed by someone nearby with alot of storage space. And the thing that gets me is the daring nature of the theft and that whoever it is is watching carefully enough to (relatively) quickly capitalize on moments when my guard is down.
Anyway, so no advice on where to obtain a replacement stock midpipe?
Funny...cant belive it.. ****, could be worse, at least they left the off road behind.
The way I see it, in a few years you be able to pick up the stock mid pipe anywhere.
For now, try a board member but you best bet would be the Junk yard...Im sure there are plenty of wrecked cars out there... matter of fact someone on here just totalled there car, ask him for his.

Also, watch your butt...someone is watching you...I had my car stolen 91 GT fully suped up...20k in parts
Sorry to hear this, but seriously what are the odd's that someone actually knew what they were taking in this case. I think it's just some crackhead gonna take it to a scrap yard and sell it for $5.00. Be thankful they didn't take the new one. BTW my Rottweiler wouldn't let something like that happen to me

Sorry that happened. Definitely someone watching while you were working. You may want to check on Ebay as well.

Almost sounds like someone was just letting you know they were watching you. There was no value to what they took and they could have just as easily grabbed the new one (I'm sure it looked new beside the old one). Can you say security cameras?
Here's an idea - If we're assuming that it was someone in the neighborhood who's been watching you then you may able to catch the bastage yourself. Let a couple weeks go by and then get an inexpensive infrared motion sensor from radio shack. You can go several ways with that - hooking it up to a computer with a webcam to trigger recording when motion is detected, an alarm device, etc. And then set the trap. Possibly a waste of time, but probably fun to play detective for awhile.
Here's a theory. My girlfriends dad is a police officer, and he told me that criminals that steal stuff normally don't take what they stole directly to where ever they store their loot. Most of the time they will hide it somewhere and come back for it. For example: I had my truck broken into and my CD player and roadside kit were taken. The officer on site told us that sometimes the stolen property may be hidden nearby. My dad and I split up the street and walked down both sides of it looking for my stuff. We found it about 2 blocks down from my house. Example #2: I guy that lives behind us had his TV stolen. When the police came my dad and I went to see what was going on. After talking with the officers we then walked across his yard and into ours, my dad went to his shop and spotted the would be thief going into some bushes and retrieving the TV. I know it is hard to hide a mid-pipe, but it would be pretty difficult to go anywhere with it without attracting some attention. I would give it a shot, you never know. If you have any areas around your nieghboorhood that have tall grass or are wooded that would be a good place to start, just don't do it alone or after dark.

Stuff like that makes me want to rig a gun in my car and leave the doors unlocked. Unfortunately I'd be convicted of manslaughter at the very least!
I hate this ****ing society. I wish we'd cut off peoples hands for stealing like some other countries.
On a side note, I work for a major food retailer and you wouldn't believe how many people steal. Not only that it's usually your grandmother who is doing it! People ****ing suck, plain and simple.

Yeah go get one of those motion sensors and rig it to a doorbell or something like that inside your house, leave the garage open and leave a wheel or something lay on the ground and go outta sight and see if they do it again. IMO it was someone that either lives around you or is a friend of someone b/c they had to of known you were out of sight for awhile. No idiot is just gonna run into a garage and take something without scoping it out. And your stock pipe prob made its way to a recycler. They pay pretty good for steel/aluminum/copper. We had 3 big stores, ie Kmart and the like go out a business a few years ago. People were breaking in at night and cutting out all of the piping and then taking it to the scrap yards for alot of cash. If i were you i'd check with any of those places if there are any nearby, chances are thats where it ended up.

Well that sucks!! I would set them up. Leave some other mod on the garage and walk inside while watching your garage area from a hidding spot. Try to do this during the same time frame it happened last time. People are creatures of habit so if they were home at that time then chances are they will be home at the same time a different day.
See what happens or if you can catch the person in the act. Then call the cops on them with reasonable suspicion to check out their garage for the other missing part. Hopefully they'll still have it and then you can press charges for trespassing and theft.
I've got a take off '06 H pipe if you're interested. I PM'd you about it.

I have those pesky drunk redneck neighbors. I got a security cam for less than nothing off the bay and used an old VCR. Cought them kicking over the Zuma Scooter while I was at work. Well needless to say the cops said they could not do anything without proof. I says how about video. They now stay well away from my property. Just the thought of being video taped scares the hell out of them there sneeky neighors.
