Default Might be trading the mach for a Termi...

Well, I found an 03 Cobra for sale for $25K w/ 22K miles on it. The guy wants to trade for a Mach 1, so I will know by June 1st when I get back from Florida if he is OK with the trade + some cash.

Anyways, the mods include:
--Cobra R Wheels / Saleen S281 Three Piece Wing / Cobra Grille Emblem
-Amazon Racing 2.81 Pulley / Amazon Racing Tune / Steeda Cold Air Intake / Bassani Cat Back Exhaust
--Steeda Triax shifter / MGW Shifter Handle

I have a few questions:
How much do you think I should give him in cash on top of my mach 1 with 26K miles?
What is the size/weight of OEM 1995 cobra R wheels?
What mods would you recommend to get into the 500+ hp range?

I would DEFINATLY watch out... I would want a A/F check, and he doesn't have ANY cooling mods on that car with a pulley - that can be very dangerous.

As far as your questions... I am not sure about the weight of those wheels, but i doubt they're that much... your 03' Cobra is probably fetching around 17-22k right now... so i'd say 5k plus trade - that is probably a good starting point. If he has those mods... all you really need is: midpipe, heat exchanger, head cooling mod, MAF, BAP and steggy stg 4 port.... or just a 100 shot of nitrous - he's probably pushing around 430-465rwhp...

yeah I actually asked him about cooling mods with a pulley, and here is his response:
I didn't go crazy with the pulley size so I didn't feel cooling mod's were needed
Should I ask him what his A/F is? Or how would I go about verifying that it's legit at 12?
And yeah I'm thinking UPR O/R X-pipe, HE, and stage 4 if I get it, but what is BAP?

boost a pump... one of the major things @ top end wide open throttle is to make sure the car doesn't lean out at that high of power. Even if you are fine with your fuel pump its a good fail safe to have... ya know?

2.81 pulley is a really small pulley... only thing smaller is the 2.76... the car in stock form creates TONS of heat.... the major thing is the head cooling mod... because the #7 and 8 heads have no way to get the coolant drained out, it just sits there and gets hotter, and hotter and then pop, there goes your heads... the head cooling mod allows the heated coolant to be drained...

I'd make sure if you're really interested in that car to get every test you can on that motor... its pullied for a reason... and while the car can take it people don't realize how much heat it creates and things can pop..

find out what amazon they tuned it with and make sure he has the xcal/diablo with the car.. I would even take it to a dyno or get a wideband to verify a/f... Ask golden about what he found out when he had his dyno'ed - he's lucky his car didn't pop...

It's just one of the major things i learned about these cars was about heat... the heat exchanger (Dual pass) lowers IAT2 temps by approx 20 deg., the ported blower does by about that also... the head cooling mod, tstat, bigger radiator are almost must haves.

He said to me:
The chip is from Amazon Racing but it wasn't Dyno Tuned. The pulley and chip have been in since May 04 so if anything issues were going to come up I would have had them by now.

That's a damn long time for a pulley that size to be on without any cooling mods whatsover, but he said he hasn't had any problems? How can I verify the engine is alright if he is an 8 hour drive away...

Thanks for the info, where can I purchase a BAF? and head cooling mods? In case I buy this car..

http://www.lethalperformance.com/pag...a-cooling.html-- has all the cooling mods there... head cooling, radiatior, intercooler expansion tank... There are 2 different head cooling mods, one that goes on the top of the motor and the other that goes on the bottom, if your porting your blower most people do the Even Flow, if your dropping your clutch for any reason then they do the LDC cooling mod... your going to be porting your blower so i sent that link for ya...

http://www.lightningforceperformance...ump-p-310.html-- there is the boost a pump, which also has the head cooling mod, heat exchanger, etc.

What kinda chip is it though? Is it one that plugs into the computer?? Personally, I don't like canned tunes for these cars at all. For any blown car especially, but a modded terminator... ehhh. Amazon does do good tunes, but i just don't know about that.. Ask what kind of chip is it.He has to know whether its a flip chip, a plug in to the computer, or a handheld. If you do buy it, i'd want to make sure you had a way of checking a/f before you drove it home, like meet at a dyno persay, something along those lines.

I would say the normal tests.. compression, leakdown, etc. - find someone there that can do it, whether its a shop or even Ford - and i'd pick it if i were you to try to make it as fair as possible.

OK man thanks a lot for all this info!!
I asked him about the tune, hoping for a response by the end of the day.
I still don't know whether or not he wants to go through with the trade--I'll find out Monday. If he does, I'll try to find a shop in the North Carolina area or a Ford dealership where I can get some tests done.

BTW..I noticed on the BAP you can manually adjust it between 1 and 50...what should I keep it at?

Not sure... a lot of people leave it all the way up... Mine, is set to be opened all the way if needed... so depending on how much the car needs, it gets.

Doesn't a 2.81" pulley add something like 60-70hp alone?

It depends... my car with just a catback and pulley put down 425/460 or so on the dyno...I added intake/midpipe and it went up to 440/480... all on bad tunes, lol
