now when u buy a real saleen from ford are the vin #'s changed so that you know they are real..i belong to a web-site that i go on where you have your ride ranked by ur peers and you can battle them.here is the web-address www.rankmyride.com now there is a member who bought a normal mustang and now has changed the look to look like a saleen my question was to him that no matter what he did its still not the real thing.his car looks great but he also lists his car as a saleen on the site.so to me thats a form of posing.i said thats like me buying a lambo kit car and saying its the real thing and listing it as a lambo on that site.

They dont change the Vin #, but Saleen does log it in to their computer system, so you can call Saleen (Liz) anytime and have her check a Vin # for verification. I usually do this on any Saleen I am purchasing used...if its on a car lot, and they are a Saleen authorized dealer, then no need if the car is brand new. Liz can tell you within 20 seconds if its "real"...its free, and anybody can call her. Hope that answered your question...
so do u give respect to a mustang that is a replica look alike or do u have more respect for the real thing
Both. I like the look of the Saleens, so I dont blame people for wanting to create duplicate the look....I wouldn't ever buy one unless its real...my .02

As long as you don't try to sell it or pass it off as a real saleen, its cool. But, if you start telling people its a real saleen, then your a dishonest poser. If you want people to believe its a saleen, then just keep your mouth closed and let them think what you want, but when you start putting stuff like "1997 Saleen #54" im your sig and stuff, then that is kinda gay.

We have this same thing happening (Roush). The only time it matters is when you are selling or showing the cars. If the show is using MCA judging rules, the Saleen and Roush class require serials or "proof" that they are the real thing to compete in those classes.

Yeah, just call Liz at Saleen, you can get the direct number from the www.saleen.com I just purchased an 01 silver Saleen S281 SC. I called Liz, and she is sending me a copy of the original window sticker, an authenticating letter, and a new Saleen owner's manuel.
She told me in the year my car was made, there were only 910 of them made, 62 that were in my color scheme and body style, and mine was the only one of its kind that had all the options. So needless to say, i was stoked. The dealership I bought it from had no idea....lol.

I paid 35K, out the door after tax title and license. I probably paid more than what its worth, but I had a trade in too. An 01 Grand Am. I owed 14,400 on the Grand Am, and the trade in value on it was 8,500. So I think I did okay, they paid off my loan on the Grand Am.
It had 35k miles on it. But its in great shape. Plus I called Liz, and like I said its the only one ever made in its color combo. and up grades.
So I think I made out pretty good. What do you think?

Well, I just ordered the original window sticker from Saleen, but it is fully loaded. Came with the supercharger, and the upgraded wheels and tires: 265/35ZR18's up front, and 295/35ZR18's in the rear.
01Saleen, you did ok, but the miles are the weakest point of the deal, I think. 35k miles is high-ish for a 01. How close to perfect is the car? Does it have flaws? Also, there should probably be some warranty left on the 3 year bumper-to bumper. Find out about that, 'cause if there's a few months left, fix anything needing fixing. leaky taillight covers, radio issues, etc. Oh, and are the wheels chrome or polished aluminum?

I agree, 35k is alot. Actually I just went over 36k this weekend. I had it in the dealership the other day. They did a full inspection on it. The guy who did it, is part of a cobra club, and works on stangs alot. He said it was in great shape. The car is in great shape overall. The only defects I noticed were the rock chips on the front bumper. The seats look like they been sat in too. but they do lack cracks, which is good. Everything else looks great.
Its in the dealership too, to have the throttle cable replaced. (covered under warranty). the wires in the cable started to come loose, and it was causing the throttle to stick...not good. lol.
