I know I'll probably get blasted for saying this but, here goes anyway. What is up with the Mustang/Ford guys??? I have been aMustang guy my entire life. I love Mustangs and other Fords. I have lately noticed, NOTHING new with the Mustang crew. We still have the same old school modifiedcars from 15 to 20 years ago. The white letter tires, the big raked look with tires that don't fit under the rear quarters. That's out! Those who have move forward a little (I'm guilty as well) are running TTII's and still have the front end higer than the back.
If you look around at the Mopar and Chevy guys, they are putting out some high dollar cars. I've seen tons of Cuda's, Challengers etc... that the owners have modernized and brought the cars up to date. The same goes for the Camaro and Vette guys. You see tons of them. Why don't we see the Mustang guys going this route? Why don't we see more of our cars modernized?
Don't get me wrong.I like seeing the old school look and I love the street/strip cars but, what about the Pro-Touring type cars? What about just a modern street look? I was at the OC Cruise this weekend. I must have seen all of the 1 million 69 Camaros sold. The one thing I notice is, most had modern brakes, most had an updated suspension and most had a modern wheel that fit under the car. Sure I saw plenty that had about 4"s of tire outside the fender but more modern than old school for sure.
All of the Mustangs at the show were just as I mentioned above with the exception of 1 or 2. The ELD coupe was a beautiful looking car and probably the best looking Stang at the event. Very modern brakes, suspension and motor. That really was one of the most up to date cars out of the thousands that were down there. Most of the other Mustangs were running the stock steel wheels with bigger tire or TTII's and barely any updates. I'm just curious to see what some of your thoughts are about why we are getting left behind. Look in Popular HotRodding, Hot Rod or any other publication other than a Ford publication. You'll see what I'm talking about. We are getting leftbehind guys, we need to get out of the dark.

Well quite frankly i agree with you that's why i'm going to add (to my 70' boss 429 clone)a heidt's mustang II IFS in front and a heidt's 4-link rear kit out back, it will also have a modern interior withcustom gauges and hump hugger crusier console with 8-point role cage and corbeau sport seats and a custom sound system, it will be painted black with white ice pearl and ghost pearl grey flames, it will be powered by a blown all-aluminum boss 429(500) with a lenco ST1200 street/strip trans, all going to the 4.30 gears in back with mickey t's rubber all the way around

It is preference, it is kind of unfair to say that one style is better then another. I have seen some awesome mustangs especially lately that are not as stock as you descibed them. I think I may see this because I am building somewhat of a newer look to my stang.
What makes something specail is not jumping on the bandwagon but rather buildings something the way you think it should be. If you build something that you are not happy with you generally put in less effort, I see that happen when people all move to one style.
Don't point that thing at me buddy! Aside from my old Toploader most of the stuff on my car is new tech, from the brakes, to the heads, to the pistons, shocks etc. Not everything has to be new though. Mustang II for instance, ain't that great, and there's no need to convert to coil over unless you wanna waste money to be able to tell people you have coil over. You can get an old Mustang to handle like a new car by using new springs/shocks and modifying the suspension, maybe going to tubular control arms(also new tech for an old Mustang). Leaf springs work great for the rear if you set them up right. But, by and large I think you're right, I see a lot of fixed up Mustangs running old technology [:'(]

If you are not quite as smart as you think, are you smart enough to know?
It's just a matter of preference. I would much rather have a totally stock car than one that has been modernized to death. To me it just takes part of the fun of having the old car away. For what I do with my car, my engine, suspension and brakes do just fine, just as they did when it was new. If I wanted to have a car that had excellent handling abilities i would buy a new one.
I am trying to do my part. I have a 68 convertilbe with EFI with, more engine mods than I care to mention, 5spd, 4 wheel discs, 3pt seat belts, custom interion (Just picked it up from the upholstery shop today), power brakes, power rack and pinion, hydraulic clutch, cd player with two amps 2 subs and 6 other speakers, billet grill, 18's in the back, 17's in the front, every body panel is modified in some way, power windows and door locks, hidden antenna, hydraulic hood and trunk lifts, bullit mirrors, Elimator hood scoop, Shelby side scoops, trunk and sequential tail lights, soon to be painted and most likely two toned and there are other things I can't think of now. I agree with you. I love the look of the mustangs but many of them are too plain. I know not every one will like what I am doing with my car. I don't care either. Just build it to your preference and who cares about every one else. One thing is for sure, I will never see a car like mine when I am done and that is what I am after.

Some people might not like new technology, but the first time they're in the middle of a puddle when someone cuts them off and they hit the brakes and the drums are flooded, they'll wish they had discs. Why settle for a 200hp engine that'll maybe last 150k miles when you can have a 300hp engine that'll last over 300k? My Mustang is quite modern and trouble free, but you'd never tell by looking at it that it's modern stuff. You don't need to turn an old car into a technomorph but at least some more modern stuff for the sake of safety and reliability.
