You guys have to bear with me a bit, I don't know many names of part, but the best I can do is descibe.
Alright, I have a 1986 Thunderbird, with a 3.8 v6, that just started having trouble starting today. Atomsk came over to my house and checked it out, and after pouring some gas into my engine directly and then starting it, said my engine was having trouble getting gas. I've never had this problem until today, and atomsk said I need a new fuel pump. It's not the battery, because it turns over. I bought a new fuel pump and now I need to know where my fuel pump is on my car so atomsk and I can replace it. As much help as possible is welcomed, even differnt advice on how to get it going.

You're going to heave to drop the gas tank to replace it. I would first find the hot wire to the pump and make sure you have power before dropping it though. It could be a blown fuse or broken wire.

Damn, alright. I could have knocked something loose, because of the way I "jumped" into the AutoZone parking lot this morning. So, that brings me to my next question, since I'm not the best at cars: Where are these fuses?

The relay will be under the hood in a box with some fuses and the fuel pump fuse may be there too but if not then inside the car over the drivers feet (under the dash)

I didn't jump a curb, the very small hill that is the entrance to the parking lot... Well, I took it at about 30mph. But it didn't stop running. This started happening at Discount Tire Co. But we got it started after a couple of tries there, but now it won't start at all.

Check in the trunk for a fuel cut off. I don't know if yours has one but it won't hurt to look. It's probably on the drivers side and in an impact it shuts the fuel pump off so it may need to be reset.

Well, when me an Atomsk did a tune up, we never actually replaced the fuel filter, but we did buy one, but I know no clue where the filter is on my car, either. But, let me go check if there's a cut off switch and I'll get back to you.
i say start with the fuel filter. i had the same problem after i let my tank run down to empty, after refilling it was running rough then i couldnt start it. replaced the filter and it was fine, took about 10mins. i had to replace the fuel pump once also. mine was making a moderately load whining sound from the tank for a few days, then the sound stopped and so did my car (this was on a gt not v6)..i had a shop replace it..

Well, I didn't see a cut off switch, unless it's in some really obscure place. So, that rules that one out, and it started after a couple of tries at Discount tires, so that can't be it. And, I don't know where the fuel filter is.

If that's the case, then I'll try that tomorrow, but, again, I don't know where the fuel filter is on my car. xD I mean, I did the same thing you did as far as let it run about to empty then refill, but my car wasn't running rough as far as I could tell. If I can find out where the fuel filter is, I'll try replacing it tomorrow when there's daylight and see if that works. I've got a new Fuel Filter sitting in my car, so, I just need to know where it is.
only had my v6 for about a month so not 100% sure, on the gt it was behind the gas tank but not hard to get to even without a jack. it was inside a metal carrier. check out this link on how to replace: http://www.mustangforums.com/m_3237011/tm.htm if you dont put it on in the right direction it wont work..
you should buy a chiltons book for your year if you have not already... i need to buy one too
Alright, I'll check it out in the mornin with my dad and atomsk, I'm so hoping it's the filter or a fuse, because I really don't feel like dropping a full tank of gas. =\ And Chilton's book? Sorry, I'm somwhat new to cars, atomsk got me into them when he told me about his '69 Mustang he's rebuilding. And I work with him alot, so...
a chilton's is a book that has all the specs for your car. it has instructions and a good amount of pictures on how to do everything from putting on a tire to removing and disassembling your engine. its a great book to have if you want to do most of the work on your car. you can get them at pep boys, autozone, napa, etc..
i hope its the filter too.. good luck and post what the outcome is..
