Default Need help please!! Distributor issues...

I've been replacing some parts on the 5.0. New oil pump, new pan, water pump, Timing cover gaskets. I had to pull the distributor to prime the oil pump (damn Napa bent me over the counter for the tool..$40). I got the pump primed because I wasn't sure if it was so I unscrewed the new oil filter a bit and nice clean oil started coming out. So the pump is primed right? Please confirm? So now I can't get the distributor to go back in!!! It's setting up about an inch..WTF!! What would be holding the distributor up? I check the old pump to the new pump and no difference. The oil pump shafts were both the same length. I at a loss for what it might be....

Please help a fellow MFer out fast. This thing has be in the garage for a week and the wife is getting a little bent on how long it is taking!!!

i have never done what you have done i have only read/hears this....

it should only take a few seconds to prime the pump.
some times with the dizzy you have to turn it in and wiggle it a bit to line up the oil pump shaft.....< thats from personal experience.

how fortunate are you? Last night adder just posted a very informative thread on how to properly stab your distributor. Check page 2 of the tech section for that headding and it will tell you everything you need to know!

If it's justg sitting up high and isn't falling flush then just bump the starter over and it should fall right in. Are you sure the pump shaft is seated all the way on the pump?
