Ok i could be completely retarded asking this question, but this guy at my work just got what looks to be an early 90's late 80's f-250 with a huge lift and 33" mud tires. He claims he has 400 something horsepower(im not sure what if anything he has done to the engine) and he insists that he will smoke me in a race. Im thinkin about racing him for somethin small like 20 bucks , I have a 2000 v6 5 spd with custom y-pipe exhaust and thats about all. Is he insane to think he can smoke me, or am i insane for thinking i can beat him?

if it's an early 90's with a stock IDI diesel you will smoke him by 10 cars

if it's a 460 he will take you but not by much

if it's a 351 you will hand him his ass by 3 cars

if it's a 7.3L diesel IDI with a Banks or a Hypermax or ATS turbo kit with the injection pump turned up alittle more than normal your toast especially if he has propane injection

an early 90's (pre 94 turbo) diesel runs about a 22 second 1/4 which is about the same as my 1983 6.9L diesel. it will pull the statue of liberty up Mt Everest but they are dead slow. turbo'd is a different story

find out what engine he has and try to find out what he has done to it from other people

my old 83 if it had a Hypermax turbo would make 270rwhp and 510ftlbs torque non-intercooled. 300hp and 575ftlbs intercooled at 18psi. my uncle's old 84 6.9L with a Banks sidewinder 10psi wastegated kit will pull about the same as a stock splitport. it puts down 244rwhp and 472ftlbs. in a 5900lb truck with 3.54 gears that's a pretty good setup

BEWARE OF 460'S.  they will put a hurtin on you

Tonight he told me its a 351 windsor, was that an option for those years? the way he made it sound was that they just bought the engine and stuck it in their.

With the 351, you'd smoke him. My friend had a 94 or 95 with the 351 and that's probably the slowest truck I've ever riden in. Our old 95 Plymouth Voyager with a 3.0 V6 was faster. I even raced him with his dad's old beater work truck an, 85 S-10 with a 2.5 4 banger and 4speed manual, and beat him with it.

good motor, heavy truck, lol. With EFI, and some serious mods, that can be a 400hp motor..but in reality, its just aint gonna cut it.
