Type of Gas...

Reikat -> Type of Gas... (5/16/2007 9:16:41 AM)

Just yesterday I realized at my typical gas station the premium gas was up to 3.17 a gallon. Scince I have a speed pass my mom gave me I could go anywhere else so to save my mom money I put mid grade in it (89 octane) I think this was a bad mistake... my car seems to hate it. It doesn't have as much pick up and it seems to be running through it really fast... I already used maybe a 16th of a tank and I just drove it home from the gas station (maybe 3 miles) So now to the point... I was wondering if anybody knew if this is normal? Is it okay to put midgrade in a 97 6-er? And will it hurt anything?

They are made to run with regular 87 octane gas. Unless you have a tune for something higher, it shouldn't make a difference.

I don't know why you were using anything but 87 oct. on a stock sixer, higher octane will not make a difference, you are just wasting your money, unless you have a tune on your car that requires higher octane

Where do you get your gas in Charlottesville?

93octane with a VMP tune FTMFW!!!!

tims 88 4 -> RE: Type of Gas... (5/16/2007 11:22:25 AM)

i run 89 in mine during the summer it seems to get better mileage it seems like i have picked up 20 miles to the tank since they put the ethanol in it i was getting only like 190 to the tank now im getting 220-230miles on 89 octane

laserred02 -> RE: Type of Gas... (5/16/2007 11:50:11 AM)

the only reason to go up to midgrade is if your car pings with 87 octane...that or you have a specific tune for it. otherwise it is just a waste of money, however it shouldn't decrease gas mileage or cause any problems.

i doubt you get better milage because of the gas. durring the summer most cars will usually get slightly better milage anyway.

man 3.17, wish i could see those numbers. Put in regular, your wasting money

02MustangV6DD -> RE: Type of Gas... (5/16/2007 3:36:56 PM)

i see worse gas in the summer, and worse gas prices!! The only time you waste more gas in the winter is when you spin em, or keep the rpms up to build up heat. The summer my engine is hot right away.

so shouldnt you bet better milage? i know that the prices go way up durring the summer...that sucks. but shouldnt milage since durring the winter your combusting cold air that is a lot more dinse than hot air so the engine take in more air meanning it takes more fuel? i dunno, the few cars ive drivin seem to have got better milage in the summer time.

87 octane is $2.89 here.
