Default Over REV!!

So we had an 80 degree day here in WA so the bullitt got taken out. This is the first time I have gotten to drive it in the 6 years my dad has owned it. He had never ran the car with TC off; sheit I don't even think he knew it had the option if I didn't tell him LOL. So we took it down the street to see if we could spin 4th not just squeek it. The first time he got mad rubber in third but then we ran out of straight road then on the way back he tried it again and missed third and reved to 6500. He was so mad!! I doubt anything really happened but what could have happened that wouldn't have already showed up? It only has 5000 miles on it.

A serious over rev = bent valves and or spun bearings, bent rods or messed up pistons/piston rings. The most common being bent valves. If it still idles fine/sounds normal and has no other problems then dont worry about it.

Unless you bypassed your rev limiter, it should cut in at about 6200 rpm.

Given your Dad's problems, I'd keep it there. There's no extra power to be had from the stock motor above 6000 rpm anyway.

We figured nothing was wrong. It still idles and sounds normal. He was just kind of mad at himself.
Thanks guys

Everybody, there is only a rev limiter on the upshift. Mario you are safe going to the rev limiter on the upshift because your engine tops out at 6,xxx rpm. If you shift into too low of gear such as 5th into 2nd, the rpm's are governed by your engine tearing itself apart. You could easily hit 9k rpms on a missshift.

Time for a good short throw shifter. The stock shifter is a rubbery mess - missing gears with that thing is a real danger.

I have the Steeda Tri-Ax, and it really works well - I understand the MGW is also a very fine unit, and allows for more positioning options and offsets (handy if you're short).

I agree 100% with tripleblack. I also have a tri-ax and love it,it isdamn near impossiblemiss shift with that thing. I believe that it is spring loaded so it practically finds the next gear for you.

I didn't know my rev limiter was changed to 6600 after my tune, so I hit 6600 and finished off my tranny. I backed it back down to 6200 now, but wish I'd known that to begin with.
