I have finally finished my low cost 4.0L power packages. Gains of 25RWHP and 20RWTQ are possible with the complete package: You can purchase the complete package from our site, or individual parts. At the heart of the package is VMP's custom programmed SCT X-Cal2 flash tuner. The X2 will hold up to 3 custom tunes. Most customers go with 91-93 perf, 87 perf, and 87 mileage, however it can be ordered with any combination of tune files. I don't believe in tune "hype". A true race tune is one that requires race fuel, my premium fuel tunes give you all possible power, there is no need for a seperate "race" and "street" tune while using premium fuel. Throttle response is improved greatly. The 115mph speed limiter is removed (though the 4.0 driveshaft is known to fail at high speeds). The fan is turned on at a lower temperature to keep the engine cooler, this keeps the car from getting as heat soaked and sluggish in traffic. If you have an auto the shift pressure and shift points are set up for a more performance oriented feel. Typical gains are 7-12RWHP and 7-12RWTQ with just the premium fuel tune. Cost is $399. We can tune for any aftermarket intake. The next component is VMP's low cost intake, in testing we found the stock rubber inlet tube is not a restriction, the main restriction is the factory airbox (with maf housing built into the lid). We replace this part with a 3" ID maf housing and high flow cone filter. Gains are 6-7RWHP. Other intakes may claim more but can't provide dyno results. I have tested most of the intakes on the market, and they all produce very similar power numbers, but no higher than 6-7RWHP. Cost $99. Intake gains: Intake picture: For those that want the look of a full intake and heat shield you may buy the full C&L intake kit from us for $275 ($649 with an X-Cal2). We have a unique option that no one else in the industry offers, you can buy the $99 VMP intake now, and upgrade to the C&L inlet tube and heat shield at a later date for $199 (no tune change required). The last component is a GT Muffler, it is a direct bolt in for the 05+ V6 cars. We have seen gains of 10-12RWHP from the muffler alone. We have seen no gains from dual exhaust on NA cars. The muffler is slightly louder and has a polished 3" SS tip. Cost $79. GT Muffler gains: All of the package components can be purchased for the discounted price of $599 shipped here.

Are you saying that a dual exhaust set up had no gains over stock, or no gains over a single GT muffler? Intrigued by the sound of SLPs, even on 4.0s, I've been debating with just going with an H-pipe, and then straight dual pipes out the back-- no mufflers. From what I can gather on SLPs, they are essentially muffler-less. In one of your previous posts, you mentioned that you dynoed a 4.0 without a muffler, and it showed hp gains. Being more experienced, what are your thoughts on my muffler-less dual set up? Inspection is not an issue in my state. I've heard 2 soundclips of muffler-less 4.0s, and 3 different SLP equipped 4.0s.. sounded similar to me. Since you've heard a mufflerless 4.0 in person, what did you think? Thanks for your help.

We saw 11-12rwhp with no muffler, and 10-11rwhp with a GT muffler. The 1rwhp is negligible. Duals don't seem to have any advantage over a good flowing single muffler.

Well I had just about givin up; on finding a tuner/intake combo with good numbers for a descent price until I found this one. Now I was wondering, since I already have MRT's aeroturbine axleback, will that require any modifications to the base tune(s) I get with your vmp intake/sct combo package? I really want to buy it, but I just want to make sure all my ducks are in a row first. Thanks!

Thankyou for the answer, I might order tonight, or I might wait until my next paycheck (got insurance coming up). Its nice to know there is good tuning shop like you guys thats not to far from me, (well, 300 miles give or take, I live in georgia). I might drop in for a custom tune when I someday get the X-Charger. One more thing, is the C&L pipe addon just for looks or does it make any power difference?

Does the VMP intake require a tune? Why do some intakes claim no tune needed, while others require it?

The WMS idea is nice, but they may put the maf a little too close to the TB, the blade may disturb air flow. We have not figured it out yet, but this could be an issue on one of my customers saleen SC 06 GT. I have not worked with the MMR. Some intake manufacturers claim no tune to make it easier to sell their intake (no tune reduces overall cost). Sometimes that claim holds true, sometimes it does not. They make the intake work with a stock tune by making the MAF housing as small as the stock part. Intakes that require a tune are better by nature, since they are larger and flow more air. The VMP intake requires a tune.

Ok, I have an 07 V6. Looking to get a CAI/tune within the next month or so. I already have a Flowmaster exhaust so I'm interested in the VMP CAI w/ Xcal2 tuner. If I understand correctly, you can give me up to three (3) tunes on it? I definitely want the 87 mileage options as I drive back east occassionally. What are my other options for 87 octane? And of course, I'll need something for premium but I won't be going to the track that much. My car is a daily driver that I drive about 75 - 100 miles/day in. Oh yeah, and how much for the VMP intake/tuner package? Thanks!

ORIGINAL: edgespeeder06 so hows does this affect my lame ford warranty? Ford won't care about the muffler, its bolt on. The intake and tune can be easily removed with no trace if you need to go in for warranty work.

Yep takes about 5 minutes to swap the intake and tune back to stock.
