What's the best and safest way to remove that crap that dealerships put on the back of your car? I hate giving dealerships free advertising. They should be paying me to do that. I want those decal letters off!

Even goes for the license plate cover thingamabob. It happened with a Mercury Sable we bought, my Father specifically told them not to put any decals or anything on the car and they did anyways. He filed a complaint at the DMV and the dealership called us crying about their $200 fine and asked why we didn't bring to car back to have them removed [8D] YinYangStang 12-19-2004, 12:00 PM like everyone has said, use heat to get it off. You may be stuck with some goo on the paint, it's not a problem. Goo Gone works, but I prefer this grafitti remover called Goof Off. I have used it several times on my car with no problems. 95stang5.0 12-19-2004, 02:53 PM GOOF OfF- is the best thing to use!!! i love it. It works on everything i have tried it on.. YinYangStang 12-19-2004, 03:09 PM ORIGINAL: 95stang5.0 GOOF OfF- is the best thing to use!!! i love it. It works on everything i have tried it on.. hehe, just be careful like it says on the bottle, if you use it to wipe down soft plastics, it will wipe off layers of the plastic.. Acer2428 12-19-2004, 04:32 PM Peel w/ fingers... The scrub HARD w/ a sponge w/ soap and water to get the glue off...worked for me! Buzz 12-22-2004, 04:06 PM I used a hairdryer to heat it up, then just peeled it off. I used some gas on a shop towel to remove the remaining glue, then waxed it. Fallstar01 12-22-2004, 04:14 PM ORIGINAL: Dan02GT Heat gun/hair dryer will work fine! If you get any glue left over, goo gone will work. I G Joe 12-22-2004, 04:44 PM my moms car had a advertising on the back we just pealed it off outselves. YinYangStang 12-22-2004, 05:04 PM I got my car from beach ford, they put a decal the size and shape of the ford emblem on the back, opposite of the ford emblem. It was awful...first mod to my car was removing it ;) 2004and1966 01-01-2005, 10:26 PM WD-40 takes off glue too! Jimmz 01-01-2005, 10:37 PM Mine didn't come with one but if it were me I'd take it to the dealership and have them take it off. I think that would be the safest way! UT04GT 01-01-2005, 11:36 PM if it hasn't been on there long the rinse, peel, and scrub works. That's what I did to mine about a month after I bought it optimusa4 01-04-2005, 04:31 AM Use warm to hot water or a hair dryer to soften the adhesive. Then carefully use your finger nail to peel off. Goo-Gone works great for any residue. Depending on how long the dealer sticker has been on the car, i.e. washes/waxing/sun exposure, you may want to rub the area with HD Cleanse and then wax. Using Goof-off or gasoline is over kill and can cause hazing or etching of the clear-coat. Scrubbing hard will scratch and will be more evident on darker colors. If you plan on de-badging your GT logos, soak the adhesive with goo-gone and then use fishing line to shave it from the surface of the body panel. Some have had good luck with dental flosh. Heat and more goo-gone will clean up the remaining residue. DeViouS 01-04-2005, 04:58 AM if pealing it w/ ur finger and using a hair dryer doesnt work just have someone point the dryer @ the emblem and use fishing wire to get under it;) |
