Hi I am wanting to replace the front tweeters/mids in my doors with a single component speaker, maybe Eclipse or Polk Audio. I have been reading up on the speakers, and I need some help understanding a few things. The mach 460 mid woofers are 5.5x7.5 according to specifications, but speakers generally come in either 5x7, 6x8, or 6x9. I need to figure out exactly what size speaker I should get, and I also want to be sure that the speakers will install into the factory locations in my doors without any problems. If anyone would be willing to give me some advice, as well as what speakers you would recommend that are reasonably priced, I would be very grateful.
I have Polk 6500s in both my doors and couldn't be happier.
You will need some adaptor plates (and some modding) to put the comp system into your door.
What I did was just get 6.5 adaptor plates, and mounted the woofer into the factory speaker location. Then, drilled into the sail panel (inside part of your side mirrors), and surface-mounted the tweeters there. I hid the crossovers in the kick panels (which do stick out a little bit).
It sounds intimidating at first but you'll be so happy everyone talked you into it.
so to install a pair of 6.5's I'd have to take off the whole inside of my door panel?
and I'd have to customize sumthing so the 6.5's can fit in the stock holes properly?
HELP ME OUT TOO
all you have to do to mount 6.5's in a 6x8 location is use some hdf to make an adapter.
1. Take your old speaker out and trace it on some hdf.
2. Cut it out.
3. Mount your woofer to the hdf. ( you will have to make a hole in the center of the 6x8 the size of the mouning diameter.)
No one ever told me todo thisthe first couple times I did it. It isvery intuitive.
