Hi all, I'm thinking about getting a 96 cobra. I have always gone Import before, but im thinging a change is needed. First where I am comming from, I have had a 96 eclipse-Nitrous-Greedy 20g boost-allforged pistons-etc 87-rx-7 twin t's, so i know speed and upgrades. But im thinking about staying virtually stock for a little bit. What i want to know is what will a 96 cobra beat stock or lightly modded, im looking ot stay stock for about 6 mos, so i can get some money for school. I just dont want to look a fool on Friday nights. Only reason I ask is in my small town there is only 2 mustangs a 2002 gt and a 68, neither of which get raced. SO i have never seen a really push of what one can do. Any help would be great, or if you have a suggestion for a better year ans style give me a shout- thanks Eric

I've seen them run 13.8's and 14.4's in stock trim. We have drag racing every friday and saturday night where I live, and the 96-98 cobra's are plentifull around here. They do respond well with little mods, so even if your not a good drag racer, 13's can/should be your area for starting. The car likes to rev, so once you get it in the higher RPM's the better off your gonna be, so upgrading to a 3.73 gear would be the first thing I'd do...Good luck, they are alot of fun
Where are the races around you ? Tracy ? Last week my friend in his SRT-4 blew the doors off a 96 Cobra over there
Not sure if that was targeted at me, but if so, the races are at PIR in Portland. I'm guessing the SRT-4 is the new Dodge Neon turbo. We have a couple that come out and run low 14's. It should in no way beat a 4 valve cobra. If it does, its because either the cobra driver does not know how to drive, or the neon is modified. One way to always know is to check the trap speed....

and plus the srt 4 is just plain ugly... yeah cobras are quick enough to keep you competitive until you can do some mods... but anything is better than driving around in a pile a of rice... they sound like weed wackers
