Default Tech question for turbo swap

Alright, it is just bugging me that I have to run a LA ecu and a VAM meter to get the best performance. I have built many 5.0L and this is my 1st 2.3L turbo project, but it doesn't make since to swap to a vam. I had a 1992 5.0L 5speed, I changed cam, heads, intake, injectors, MAF calibrated for injectors, and added a supercharger with 16psi, 460 dyno at rear wheels, on stock pcm with no programmer or chip-stock ecu-so why can't I do the same on a 1992 4-cylinder? add turbo, injectors, bigger maf and such and allow maf and computer to adjust accordingly? Even add a tuner or dyno and have a chip made for better fuel management. I have a 1989 4cyl coupe as the car to build, a 1992 4cyl coupe with a blown engine-cracked head and some body damage and a 86 TC that runs good, has body rust, for the doner engine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can, but when your engine takes a dump because of the pistons then you'll see why its easier to swap it all at once.....

Because 2.3's don't run off Mass Air, they're speed density.

Evintho Knowns about it. This going by what I "read". The vam is good to approx 300 hp.Then it is a bottle neck. Then mass air, need wide band to read fuel ratio to program the computer thru j-3 port with chip you program. There is a mass air converter that plugs in but is called "mess air" on turboford.net. Or go to standalone computer. Me personally I would go stock, learn, modify, learn, then go to mass air. All the parts up to this point you still need for mass air, [ intercooler, bigger injectors, reworked head, intake etc]. For me if I get to 300 hp it would be plenty for me for a street car. My 2 cents worth.

I'm keeping the stock computer and switcing the engine over to maf. To keep the dist. compatible with the computer i've researched all the pinouts and have rewired the harness to keep the dist. instead of the crankfire setup. After its running I'm going to get the thing tuned and probably have a chip burned for the comp.
