No, stock carb was a 735 holley, way to small. The dual quad manifold is a factory Ford piece they made 16 of for Pro Stock racing. They work much better than the single carb.
i thought so. was just checking. That set up you have is very cool. How in the world did you get your hands on the duel manifiold, if only 16 made, that is rare in itself.

I worked for a speed equipment shop in 72 and was able to purchase it from Holman and Moody at one of their garage sales.
How many bosses were built? There is a guy down the road from me(who needs to be shot..by the way) who has a 70ish(I think it is 70ish) Yellow with black stripe Boss, looks ALL original. The reason he needs to be shot is for 13 yrs(probably longer but that is when I moved here) it has been sitting the same two spots in his driveway(at least we know it runs, no cover, no washes, and there is a 4 car garage RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT!!!!! The headliner is starting to fail. The car looks like it has the original, or maybe 2nd set of tires.
Aside from the fact that Ford only produced 1359 X code Mustangs (Boss 429's) Boss 429 : I think you might have made a mistake , please set me right . In 1969 Ford built 850 Z code " Boss 429 4-V " cars , and in 1970 500 Z code "Boss 429 4-V cars" . In 1968 They built 733 X code "390 2-V Premium Fuel" Mustangs. I don't think any boss cars ever had an " X " engine designation in their vin , correct me if I am wrong please. Where does the number 1359 come from? I am constantly curious and like to learn more about these cars. By the way your car is beautiful ! Imagine having the money and forsight to buy that car and hold on to it.Have you ever at any time considered selling it ? If you would like to read an article about my car , look for a copy of the March 07 Mustangs and Fords magazine and check out " Rare Finds" . It's not pretty , but it now has a motor ( the correct part # 317 390 ci 2V ) and tranny ( the correct PGA-S C6 ) and i've aquired a parts car for the sheetmetal. I hope in about a year to have it as gorgeous as yours. Congrats ! Bill

Here is a shot when i first found The X in a tow yard. I am a little embarresed , but hey , It's a dream in the works and a money pit ... I cannot afford to send it to a restorer , so slowly it's coming together . had to drive from San Francico bay area to Passadena to get the correct motor and tranny out of some guy's garage where it had sat for 18 years.

Fumble fingered typos, 1358 Z code Boss 429's,although depending on who's book you read it may be 1359( from Steve Strange's Boss 429 book, first edition). The foresight was in recognizing the fact that Ford had purpose built a new engine for the Nascar wars, something not done before and has not been done since,by any manufacture. That's rare ! Originally,Ford developed the SOHC 427 to beat the Chrysler hemis, but Nascar would not allow it to run.So Ford went back to the drawing board and come up with the tunnel port 427 heads which they ran sucessfully until the Boss 429 was ready.. When I saw the first magazine articles about the Boss 429 I was hooked, everytime I open the hood it still takes my breath away. And contrary to popular belief, the Boss 429 was no slouch in the 1/4 mile,I have time slips from Maple Grove Dragway from 1970 at 12.48 at 114 mph with a good tune ,headers, traction bars and a set of slicks I borrowed.
I dunno about dry humping anything , but if you did , you'd be riding a COUGAR ..... yes , i have seen photos of the first few protos of what became the Mustang and some of them , maybe not the very first , have the word Cougar and a cat on them. But again , this is not an example of a car that any of us probably ever would have had a chance to own.

I've seen that car listed before on e/b . Not sure if it sold and is being resold , or if it is the same person because the deal fell through or it did'nt sell , the last 3 i've seen sell went for 30K , coupe rough shape , 75K coupe concourse resto , and 178K concourse resto fastback. Then there was a basket case rotted away fastback that sold for 7K , basically the guy bought the vin and title. One guy made a huge score and bought one about like this coupe from somebody in NY bout a year ago for 4K but truthfully it takes about 20 to 50 G's to put them back together. Main raeson is , if your are anal like me and want all the right parts , you are in competition with the 428 CJ owners most parts on the 390 gt 428 cj and 390 x are interchangeable. just some trivia ......later Bill.
