Default Can a 302 hang with a 351?

I am curiousto know if a 289 or 302 can be built that can equal or out perform a 351c or w? Lets say with a budget of $4,000 max. and the car is a 67Mustang. I assume cubic inchs will give the 351 the edge.

All things being equal, cubes have an advantage...but different engines work different ways...something like a 302 has a shorter stroke and can wind higher to make power more easily than an engine with a longer stroke, there's too many variables really. The biggest advantage I see in a 351 is stock block vs stock block the 351 can take more power before it breaks.

if they were both modded to the same specs, then the 351 would win

I've seen 302s run 11s and 408 (351 strokers) run 13s.

Your performance goals, car use goals, and budget will define what motor build it best for your application

In the end I think your budget and the craftsmanship of the labor would decide. Like it was previously said, you can make a 302 run in the 11's with a 408 in the 13's.

I'm planning on making my 302 at around 415hp. I think she'll be able to hold up.
