Default New mustang question

Hey I just bought a 2002 V6 with only 12,500 miles on it. I was just wondering if anyone else with a V6 heard like a ticking sound or a sort of odd distinct sound when they were accelerating. I know it can't be a rocker hitting or something along those lines the engine is new. I'm just wondering if thats just how mustangs sound. That and do these v6's seem a little loud or is it just me???? Lol thanks for your help I had an F-150 so i'm getting used to this whole car thing.

Well a stock V6 is not loud at all. I'm guessing that if you hear a ticking and it's loud, you have an exhaust leak somewhere. They sit so low to the ground and my cats are all scraped and dented up, so check for leaks. I've heard of people hitting speed bumps so hard that it cracks your headers.

My v6 is stock right now, and I don't have any sounds like that when I accelerate. Just normal sounds coming from mine.

I'd look into it, even newer cars can have problems-- especially since you bought yours used as well.

actually the V6 valvetrain is noisy by design. You have long pushrods and steel rocker arms. Also your PCV valve makes alot of rattling noise too. With your car running, pull the PCV valve out of the valve cover and place your finger over the hole. If you hear the rattling stop, then you know it's your PCV valve. You can delete the whole system quite easily.

my moms car makes a ticking noise when she starts her car up. after it warms up its gone, we thought it might be a valve but ive now come to realize that maybe it could be the headers i mean they could heat up expand and close the hole. gonna have to tell my parents.

Do you hear the noise during startup or idle? I worked on a 01 v6 that 3 lifters had collapsed. The sound could barely be heard at idle but when accelerating the noise was very noticible. Also for an 02 your car doesn't have to many miles. If the car was sitting around for a couple months the oil wasn't changed it could have gunked up.

Hey I hear a noise when I accelerate too. At first I thought it was something in the vents ticking but then I realized it was the engine. It's perfectly normal. Don't fret.
