Default 210RWHP/247RWTQ from VMP Intake, VMP Tune, and GT Muffler

We did all of this last year, but figured I would repost on here since its good info.

Rebecca's carmade 186rwhp and 225rwtq stock, with 87 in the tank.

First thing I tried was a 20% UD alt pulley, several runs, no change in power. Put the stock one back on. With the rear defroster on charging at idle was slightly compromised, down to about 13.5v.

Then I tried my VMP 3" CAI, saw a 7rwhp gain. I have tried about 7 different CAI combinations on these cars, 6-7rwhp is all you are going to see. Even a 4" CAI does not make a difference. I have tried the C&L, demolet, JLT, GT airbox lid, steeda, VMP 3" MAF housing with stock black rubber tube, 3" full cai, 3.5" full cai, and 4" full cai. All produced basically the same gains. The biggest restriction in the 05 intake is the airbox setup and the way it feeds off the top of a panel filter. I can't say that I think any of the CAIs out there are really worth the money for what they do. Most run $200-$300, some you could make with parts from home depot, others are nice cast alum or plastic pieces but that doesn't make any extra power, the V6 does not need much air. That is why I decided to come out with my VMPlow cost $99 intake, why spend the money on a $200-$300 intake if you don't have to?

The next test involved pulling the muffler off, we saw 11rwhp and 7rwtq on top of the CAI with no muffler. We then put the GT muffler on and the numbers were nearly the same. The GT muffler is much lighter and larger if you look inside. The stock exhaust is dual 2.25" cat pipe into a single 2.5" catback. I think there would be very very little or no gain from going to true dual exhaust on an NA car with stock heads and cams.

Then I started dialing in the 93 oct tune with 93 in the tank. We saw an 8-10rwhp and 8-10rwtq gain.

I am pretty happy with the #s for the money I spent (next to nothing), I had an UD crank pulley but never got a chance to try it. The car is getting a blower so I will put true dual exhaust on it at some point.

We now offer the same parts we used on my wife's car (VMP Custom X-Cal2 tuner, VMP Intake, and GT take off muffler) in a "Power Package" on our website. http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...&parent=92

according to the #'s, you are making 210hp and over 250torque in stock form at flywheel considering it is a manual transmission and we account 10-12% driveline loss. After mods you are producing 235hp and 270+ torque at the flywheel and this #'s are impressive. I figure mine, with CAI, 91tune, dual exhaust (x-pipe), light driveshaft, RP oil in case and trans, wires is probably producing 215rwhp and 250+rwtq.

"oil and wires do nothing"
Sorry but that's wrong.
There is plenty of evidence to support that JBA Blue Power Cables improve HP. So does using Royal Purple has been shown to free up more useable power as well.
Oil and Wires DO make a positive difference!

I want performance AND looks. If it's justa filter that I'm going to be attatching to the stock inlet tube, I'm not getting it. Can you show a picture with it ON the car?

Hi, we know that some V6 guys out there want the looks too, so we offer the full C&L V6 intake with or without a tune. Pictures are available on our website.

Hi, a custom programmed SCT X-cal2 is $399 with 3 tunes and 6 months of support. If you are just looking for an email tune file the cost is $50. Both items can be ordered from our website.
