How could you possibly expect to make any money with all of these "limited editions" that keep trumping one another?
I don't understand making exhorbitant monthly payments for a trophy you never use. These cars aren'tgoing to be worthmore than what you paid for it because everyone else is collectingthem too!
I agree, with that Eviligloo, everybody is making a limitied edition this, a one of a kind that , You have Saleen who pretty much started it n 83-84 and is probably still the best, then you have Roush, Now Shelby, and Foose, and some specific Dealership built cars that amount to a stripe kit, wheels and sometimes a charger. It's good to have choices but dang that just saturates the market I think.
Peace.

Excellent point eviligloo, not to mention the sheer volume of all those various special editions. I didn't buy my car with any kind of expectation that it would soar in value, but I do like a bit of exclusivity, and in the upscale area I often drive, I've *already* seen several Shelbys.
Sad for all the GT500 owners who bought their car with the 'most powerful production Mustang ever' mantra on their lips. Now they will be third on the Shelby power list.
Isn't there also a Boss model coming out? (or 3 Boss variants- a regular model, a street course model and a drag model).I remember someone at Ford saying there would be a new limited edition 'stang every couple of years.

+1. I'd be pretty upset if I paid $35k over MSRP to get one of those "limited edition" GT500's.
There is one side effect from all of this that I can't complain about. Every time someone comes out with a 500 or 600hp car, it ups the bar for the other manufacturers.
If you're willing to be patient...I'm sure there will be plenty of these cool "limited edition" models in the used lot as people trade up for the next best thing. I'll gladly buy a GT500 then!
it's a new golden age for large displacement horsepower and I'm so sad I don't have more garage space. The '08 Viper at 650hp, the GT500 SSup to750hp, the Challenger, the up-engined 'vette, the Camaro... I'm looking forward to local car shows and poker runs over the next few years, what a glorioustime to be a horsepower fan!

I agree also. Auto prices only escalate when supply is lower than demand, as with anything else. The reason all the muscle cars shot up so high was the aging baby boomers could finally afford the cars that were out of thier reach as teens ( i am one of them). Todays kids are mostly into imports, will they want American Muscle cars in 30 years? What will gas prices be then? My guess is their will be limited demand.
I think fine auto's are really just fine art in a driveable form.
Buy a car because you want it, not because you think you can make money with it. The guy with the 1978 "Limited Edition"Corvette Indy Pace car at Barrett/Jackson is a good example. He never took the plastic off or any other delivery items. He stored it properly and if I remember it sold for $38,000 or so less fees. He probably paid $15,000 for it. Thats a lot of work and expense for a gross profit of $23,000 over 20 years. He was better off driving it once and a while and enjoying it. He would have got way more than $23,000 worth of fun out of it, imo.
I was thinking the same thing (too many limited editions) when I was reading the brand-new Motor Trend June issue, featuring the GT500KR. It worries me that my "poor little old 3-valve" might start to look like a wimp. But I didn't buy the car as an investment or as a racecar, so I guess I'll live
