Need help with bypassing stock amp in my 00

OK, I'm trying to install a new head unit in my 00 GT. My car does NOT have the Mach 460 but DOES have premium sound with an amp underneath the slave CD player. I want to bypass the stock amp and run HU output directly to my speakers.

I bought the kit below, and it fits the long grey 8 pin plug and the black 8 pin block plug, butI really can't figure out what you're supposed ot do with the bypass harness. I can attach one end of it to the harness that goes into the output of the AMP, but where does the other end go?

I could cut the other end off the harness and not use the 8-pin block plug for my speaker leads, I guess, but this isn't how it's supposed to work...

Can you guys give me some advice?

the other end is supposed to go to the input of the amp. If you take the input, and connect it to the output, you bypass the amp. I would recommend not using the small 8 pin black hrns and half of the bypass hrns. If you disconnect the output from the amp you can simply pull it up to where the radio is and you do not need the small square, or the part that would plug into the input. Cut the bypass hrns in half and then use the flat sided piece that looks just like the grey power portion. If you want to save a couple of bucks, return this kit and get a standard ford 70-1770 hrns and it will be the same as what you need with out any extra.

Look at page 2 of my cardomain site in my sig and it shows these hrns with a mach system

Thanks, man. I looked at your page, but I don't think it applies to my year. I don't see a flat grey plug in there where yours is... I only have one and it's large with two rows of pins. Also, the other end of the bypass harness is large and doesn't fit the square block of the input harness...maybe something with the newer years?

It sounds like your advice about leaving out the square black plug and cutting the bypass harness is in line with what I proposed, but you mention using the small grey end similar to the power plug...this may be another year difference, but I don't have one of these...the other end of the bypass harness is large (they both are) and has two rows of pins...nothing like the grey power one.

Maybe I'll go back to Advance and see if they have the harness you're referring to that doesn't include the square black plug so that I can save $10.

Oh, and I checked on the 1770 harness...since I don't have that other long grey plug you describe back behind the dashboard, this harness won't work.

I think my car is a transition year since it's >98 and <01 and Premium (with an amp) but not Mach 460. I didn't even think it had an amp till it took it apart.

it sounds as though the wiring is a little different. While it is different I can promis it is still the same as well. So one side of the bypass is the same and the other is different? The flat one that I said was the output and the one to wire into you don't have but is the other end the same? We need to do some checking but it should not be too hard. Do you know how to use a small AA battery to test for speakers, or how to use a ohm meter to check them?

Yeah, I bet it's just different plugs. Man, I can't really understand exactly what you're asking, but the bypass looks like the one above in the middle with two fat plugs on each end...I plugged it into the harness that was going into the outputreceptacle on the amp, then I cut off the other end to splice it into my Kenwood harness.I didn't use the upperblack plug above.The gray flat power wire is the same as yours...I just don't have anyother flat harnesses in there.

Maybe I'll take some pics of it when I go back in there, but I got it all wired up now and it works great!
