Ok....not totally decided but getting there about selling my Saleen. Before all of you start, its a personal opinion and if I get rid of one of my rides, the Viper wins hands-down. The build, performance, looks, etc. are just a step-up versus my Extreme ( again, my opinion..). Hell, I even like my Jeep more ( maybe the 450hp helps that!). Anyway, I'm a driver and my beauty has 10,000 miles on her. Its #59 Vistablue and always in the garage. May put it on the web and not sure the value/price range on these types of vehicles. Any ideas?

Wow! 10,000 miles is pretty high. I am thinking that you have just about ran her into the ground with all that commuting and be lucky to get $5500 for her. Tell you what......I will go up as high as $5800 but that is it! PM me for acceptance of my offer and I will meet you for sale. Of course, I will expect you to meet me in say.......... San Francisco as Virginia is too far for me to go with this darn ankle bracelet.

I think you might be missing a zero on your offer there Jazz
Depreciation is a bitch there Viper and unfortunately 10k miles on a car of this stature will probably hurt Good luck, I hope you get good money for it IF you decide to sell. Not that its any of our business why you need to sell, but hopefully you can find a way to keep them all - have your cake and eat it too

Well like you said its your opinion! Being you own both the viper and extreme, your opinion means more than most, since not everyone owns the two cars. I think Saleen just over the last 3 years or so have droped the ball over the quality of there cars. dont get me wrong, I love mine and have had very little issues like others in here has. Good luck. I think with the miles you have 10-12k below what you paid would be a good starting point, IMO.

Don't need to sell it......and may not given estimated loss in value. One local Mustang/Saleen speed shop told me between $46 and $52K!!! Yikes!!! A $20K loss in "value" (gotta wonder about investment potential....? does not exist on these Saleens IMO ). Checked the estimate on my Viper and even with 20K miles on it, I've still only dropped in value maybe $8K. I do understand paying retail for new cars and the 1st years loss.....but, come on. Guess I'll just sit on it awhile and the bleeding should slow down after the 1st & 2nd years ownership period (maybe). Hummmm......now I see why no Barrett-Jackson history.

Unfortunately, if an E has less than 5k miles on it, I'm guessing it will go for closer to $60k+ (a drop of about 15 to 20%). I think that's the same kind of depreciation you'd see for a Viper or Z06. My local Dodge dealer has a new '06 Viper (they didn't make an '07 one, right?) still on the lot that is advertised at $15k off MSRP. Quite a hit off of MSRP for a new limited-production car, never titled. I wonder how much the Shelby GT500s will be going for once owners drive them for 5k to 10k miles and put them back on the market...
It's been said 1000 times, but buying a new car as an investment is always dicey. A buddy of mine has a Lambo/Buggatti/Aston dealership and he always seems to have a few ultra-low mileage Ferraris on the property that were trade-ins now being sold for tens of thousands less than MSRP. I've also heard stories of a Lambo or two with engines that have blown up (and one that went up in flames), so maybe our Saleens are built better than we thought compared to some of the pricier exotics out there...
Yeah, buying just about any car (there are exceptions) your going to lose money. Now a 20k loss in vaule for your E, is almost stupid that person would say that. being your car is very limited, it will hold a higher vaule in say 10 years. Saleen hold a better vaule than just about any other Mustang built in say the last 10 years, other than the Cobra R.IMO. Like I said if you paid 70k for it, I would think its worth 58k--62k or so. Again it all depends on supply and demand. someone will pay you what you want for your car, you will just have to wait for that person. The fact that you have over 10k miles does not help, most people think that a car with limited production ( I think 100-200 E made? Correct me if I am wrong) would have less than 10k on it. So you got to keep that in mind. Also If I was in the market for your car, the fact that its a Daily Driver would turn me off. Most people, not all people dont own a Viper and have another high performace limited car as there daily driver. Like myself, I have a 06 Expedetion as my DD. Anyway. 10k loss sounds about right or 15% vaule of your car. Of course check back in 30 years and you could see it worth more than you paid, you never know!

what kind of decent price? hopefully more than i bought it for. (in 15 years)
.... i was considering selling my E and purchasing a Z06, but ill only sell it for what i paid for it 68-70 (after taxes). how would it go with only like 1200-1500 miles on it (not sure how many saleen are going to put on testing the car)
i wont ever sell it .... but im just sick of having problems with it and its brand new.... we'll see, saleen might get tired of seeing me walk through that door one day too. i mean, i dont get pissed off ant anyone when i go there, they've been very nice and helpful to me.... its just frusterating that i own a car i cant drive and have to be worried about breaking all the time.
i am the only E owner w/ this many problems and would take an 07 before a Z07 though.

Sell it and be done with it if it is such a head ache, if not just drive it and enjoy it, either way make a decision on it. Love the car or hate, it still has two more seats then the viper and z-o6 and hauls ass doing it!

Regardless if is n/a, s/c or e - its going to depreciate in the early years. Wait 10-15 or even 20 years out when who knows what the Mustang will look like - thes Saleen & Roush cars will have some value due to their exclusivity
But not right now. Think of it this way...would you pay anywhere close to sticker for a used car with 10k miles when you can go to the dealer and buy one brand new for sticker Even if its 10k less, at this price range thats not much of a difference for most buyers with that kind of money. You pretty much need to wait until the new generation is out in '09 or '10 and then it won't be so easy for that argument.
I just don't like this thread and where it's going.
Sell the Saleen........uh, well maybe not. The Viper and ZO6 forums are pissing their pants right now with laughter reading this stuff. Damn.
Oh well.
i appologize... just remember ive been a diehard Saleen fan forever and i have a 2001 C5 sitting on the lift in my garage with 12,000 miles on it and it NEVER gets driven. The E gets parked right underneath it!

oh i know. i love the car, im just frustrated. I bought the E in the first place and not the Z06 didnt I? so they can take that and swallow it. I still see Z06's everywhere and i havnt seen one other E and only a couple S/C models, and when the car is fixed and i start doing a couple minor mods, ill eat those Z06's up for dinner. not sure, but i think i already have the viper beat....they lost horribly to the Z06 in car and driver.

i edited it for you to say what i really meant. I reread it and that wasnt exactly what i was trying to get accross. Z06's have been tested longer than Saleen's have....they only have so much time when Ford decides to ship a few their way for test and they have a deadline. Thats what i blame my problems on and what Saleen pretty much told me in so many words.

As far as being a Saleen fan, I purchased my first in 1990 so I guess I'm a franchise player. I just didn't like that Viper was thinking about maybe selling and some thoughts went sideways.
I don't know that your $8K Viper depreciation estimate is correct. My friend bought a brand new 2004 Viper in 2004 for $87000 and it's worth about $48K realistically now with 13K miles on it. I have my Roush stage 2 , and I love it, only got 6800 miles in 2 years but now i will drive the hell out of it and enjoy. I didn't buy it as investment but to have fun with it. Take care

speaking of the viper.... this will all change soon as production of the new viper will be of a suprise to all, but im not going to be the one to spill my guts.

The problem with selling a car a year after you buy is that you lose that tax money that you paid. Yes, the car will do down in value but there is no way to get back the tax money. A $72,000 Exteme cost about $81,000 with taxes. Even if you were to get the full value of the car back, you will never get the tax money back. Now that added to the depreciation of the car, that could add up to some major $$$.

I think its a fair discussion. I frequent the 2 major viper boards all the time, and they talk about early resale and not wanting to take a hit also.
This problem is not a Saleen thing, its an expensive niche market performance car thing. Z06, Viper, (insert hot car here) owners would all agree. Someone out there is looking for a nice Saleen Extreme, and they'll be lucky when they get ahold of yours.
