thanks but i already have a spare v8 and 2 c4 tranies and wanna put that in it.the motor is a rebuilt 80 mustang motor so its a 4.2l and doesnt make much power but it would be cool to put in here to make this car a driver again. its my bosses car, he might just give it to me free. it starts way hard, if it wasnt for that i might tackle the timing chain and throw a newer tranny in it. its a stang no one has and i like stuff no one has.
and why would i want a modern car?????? i have a 86 gt and a 93lx that are daily drivers

ive done like 5 swaps or so by now. and i think that the 78 cobra was a 302 car, so this v6 one would fit a 302  no big deal, prolly wont fit with foxbody motor mounts, but never know. maybe get crazzier and rebuild and turbo a six in it!.lol

Is this the same body style as like the Cobra 2 kind of? Like a mix between a Pinto and a Mustang?

A lot of those had all aluminum v6's in them and they were total junk and notorious for jumping time.

its way hard to crank over no matter how good the battery is, he put  a few starters in it and it was always the same deal. anyway he said he was doing about 50mph and it backfired and he couldnt do more then 35 after that!

wow, a crapload of hate and alot of mis/disinformation......

first, its NOT a pinto (see my title under my name). 74-78 mustang II's are getting harder and harder to find, and while that one is surrounded with weeds it looks like its pretty solid and its all there.

they never put all aluminum V6's in there, so i dunno where the hell that statement came from. they came with a 2.3 liter 4 cyl just like the fox bodies. they also came with a 2.8 liter 60 deg. V6 (completely cast iron). they are similar in design to the 2.9 and 4.0 V6's used in rangers, bronco II's, and explorers. 302's were also used, and the 78 King Cobra was actually the first year ford used the 5.0 designation instead of calling it a 302.

all mustang II's came with either a C4 automatic trans, or a 4 speed manual. they have 8" rear ends, with a bunch of different gear ratios depending on the year and model. they made a notch/coupe, and a hatchback. some had t-tops, and i believe there were sunroofs on some of them but i cant remember.

you can drop a 289/302 in that II pretty easily, you'll need V8 mustang II specific motor mounts, headers/exhaust manifolds, oil pan, oil pickup tube, bellhousing, flywheel/flexplate, and you'll need the larger V8 radiator (they were 3 cores as opposed to the little weenie ones in the V6 cars).

keep in mind hot rodder the world over use mustang II style steering and suspension in their badass cars because of how well its designed. better than anything mustangs had for years and years afterwards (maybe the best ever even still). these cars are SO fun to drive, and their values are steadily going up.

I wouldn't trade mine for the world. Probably the most misunderstood auto ever produced. Although they weren't the protypical MUSTANG - it was able to carry on the Mustang name for the next generations to enjoy. My car used to have the I4, it now has 302 that cranks out roughly 320 HP, it has a beefed up C-4, other than that it's mostly stock. To swap over to a 302, you're going to need to motor mounts(forget anything fox body - not gonna work), exhaust manifolds or headers are Mustang II specific, Bell housing for the C-4 is also MII specific. Get it together and do it right and you'll have a FANTSTIC fun toy to play with. Mine is NASTY fast - started out as a project for me and my son - for my son to eventually drive....well I won't it leave the yard without me in it - CRAZY freaking quick....I eat GT's and **** LX's

i hear ya. i LOVED driving it with my old 300ish hp 302, and i almost orgasmed every time i drove it with my 400+ hp 302. now its time for a 350+ hp 289 and we'll see how it is
