Sorry if its old news to anyone, but I did not realize today that Shelby GT500's are not shipped to Shelby in Nevada for the conversion such as the Shelby GT's are. According to my dealer, the GT500's are built entirely at a Ford factory. I know for a fact that the Shelby GT's are converted by Shelby itself in Las Vegas, but I did not know this about the 500. (assuming its a fact). To me, this makes the Shelby GT much more interesting and desireable.

Yes its true that Shelby doesnt have the 500 built in NV, but the GT500 is still the GT500 and that is all I have to say.

The thing is(unfortunately), Shelby's company is just an outfitter(as the option is listed in the Ford spec sheets) company. Not like the old days, where all aspects of the original GT350 where very Shelby influenced, i.e. 9" diff with Galaxie brakes, torque arms( which required modifying the rear floor pan and eliminating the rear seat) Koni shocks, Shelby spec'd spring rates, high rise intake with specific Holley carb, Tri-Y headers with side exhausts, modified front suspension geometry, functional hood scoop(!). All Shelby does now is what any dealership can do. FFRP CAI/tuner install, FFRP suspension package and exhaust install, Hurst shifter, Billet grille overlay and stripes added.......not anything super special(other than the name). Just look at old muscle car values, big inch cars are worth more than smaller engined ones. I think the GT500 will always be worth more just because of it's engine, if nothing else IMO

Correct.
The Mustang Shelby GT is a GT Premium that is sent to Shelby in NV to have a host of FRPP parts and a few other goodies put on it. You get a dash plaque that is signed by him, too.
The Mustang Shelby GT 500 is built by Fjord's SVT division at their AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. It is a GT Premium with parts from FRPP and a few others.
As for what is worth more? Right now it appears to be the GT500. Who knows that the future will bring. Too bad they did not up the HP in the Shelby GT to at least 350HP. Would have been a nice spot for it, right between the GT and the Saleen/PJ and the other up coming N/A special edition Mustangs.

I thing the GT500 will always be worth more simply because it costs more to begin with and is built in more limited numbers. I just think the fact that the GT is converted by Shelby in NV is meaningful, in other words, Shelby did not only endorse it but his plant also played a part in constructing it, even if it is just adding on standard Ford performance parts. I just think this is cool, personally. What the heck do I know anyway? Maybe I'm just partial to the Shelby GT at the moment because I sat in and started a Shelby GT in the dealer's showroom (yes - in the showroom) just this morning....AWESOME!!

I, like most people could care less about the production numbers between the two. The fact is the GT500 is a supercar more or less. 500 HP, looks mean as hell and it has its history also. The shelby GT has about the same power as my GT does with just a CAI/tune. I spent 600-700 and now have something that has about the same and probably more HP than the Shelby GT and I did not pay 40k+ for it. As stated about, give the Shelby GT a bigger engine with more HP and then its alot different story. I honestly think that shelby probably didnt have that much to do with either car.
The only value for me in the GT500 was the 500HP on a motor that could take 700 to 900. I think people that buy the GT500 because of the resale value are going in for a nasty surprise. The fact is my GT is quicker and handles better with the mods I have in it but it's not reliable.... My GT500 is really smooth and comfortable. I has the same leather feel than my 350 King ranch. I'm considering making it my daily driver.

Exactly. Shelby added NOTHING new to the technology with the Shelby GT. The styling is sharp but, as pointed out above, the implementation (installing a collection of already built parts) isn't even that creative compared to what a lot of other vendors and members of this forum have done.
There will be some small premium in the stickers and badges down the road. Not nearly enough to justify even the MSRP ask today much less the ADP. If you are buying this car as an investment, good luck.
Too bad really, Shelby could have gone down the road more like the Saleen PJ instead and had something to be proud of vs. just living off the legend. I consider myself a Shelby lover and wish very much to see a return to the things that made the name great. Maybe next year.....
The GT500 is more a Shelby that the 'GT' will ever be - regardless of where it was built, who built it, or what its VIN number says. SVT had a frickin' vision! The Shelby GT OTOH is the quitesssential hype-mobile, priced accordingly, and proof of P.T. Barnum's adage.

I like the way you think. Although I think nowadays there's more suckers born than ever before.
Another adage is "to each his own". I personally think the Shelby GT is a hellava nice factory-built car, which really appeals to me. It also appeals to me that so many mods are already done, because after I buy it I might be hard pressed to find the additional time and occasional $$thousands to do the mods myself, not to mention that all these parts receive factory warranty, its a Shelby and has all the associated badging, appearance mods and distinction that follows. I would only do this, however, if the price is at MSRP or reasonably close. Otherwise, its an '08 GT for me or other '08 offering. The photo isnt the one I was in this morning, but it looks the same as that one.

+1
I guess in every form there are people that just can't get over it and probably will try to bash it till the day they die. Life's to short, Energy wasted on a beaten up subject. I will enjoy mine till the day i die, and could care less what anybody thinks about. Enjoy what you have, while you have it. I will.............

That looks like the Shelby GT I drove a few months ago. The one I drove was in Alma, GA. The General Manager told me it was a GT500 over the Phone. After I drove it I knew I had to have a Vert. My GT500 will be built 5/7/07 and supposed to be delivered on 5/26/07. I've never owned a car. I have 3 Superduties. Someone is comming to look at my 01 F250 to buy it. I hope they do so I can use the money to pay on the 500!!

07gteddy, I agree with you. If you notice 90% of the trash talkers are driving a run-of-the-mill GT. They don't and will never understand. Just take it in stride and wait 10 years when their GT's are in the junkyards all across America waiting to be pressed in a small cubes.
I have said this example before...which would you pic...a 68 GT or a 68 Shelby GT350. I think everybody knows the answer to that and we will be smiling in the end. The funniest thing about it is that a lot of these trash talkers will be the ones asking to buy our Shelby GT in 40 years when they can finally afford one after retirement :)
