hey everyone. i have a 4cyl notchback that ive been looking to put an engine in. im on a budget and i dont really have the money to lay down for a really expensive block. so the 351 seems like a good choice because of its much beefier nature. I figured i could pick that up relatively cheap. Ive been looking at stroking it and the 393 seems to be the most popular. CHP sells a 393 stroker kit for 899 that i would probably pick up. Is this a good choice? or is there something much better? also i want to convert it to a roller setup and use a roller cam and such, and i will be using a carb. I am also curious which heads and intake manifold you would suggest for such an engine and also camshaft selection. carb will most likely be a 750cfm holley.
in general i want a car that i can take to the streets occasionally but for the most part will be a trailer car and id like to run somewhere in the 10 second region which i think should be attainable with about 450hp and maybe a hit of spray.
so i would just like to hear about your recommendations on top end kits and setups and also on possibly better bottom end kits as well.
thanks guys

The 393 sounds like a good deal to me...
I am planning a 393w myself, so I will keep that kit in mind
I can't help on the carb stuff, as I am an EFI kinda guy.
I have some swap Fox 351w swap info on my site, but it was written for EFI, when starting from a 5.0
It may give you some alternative choices on some stuff though.
FullAuto is a member here who sells stroker kits, you should drop him a message. personally, i have heard alot of people say the 408 is the best 351w stroker around. i know one guy locally who has/had a 408 with victor jr heads running in the 10's on just motor.
i know thats kinda vague, but there ya go anyways.
vristang what happen to ur old acount what did u do and als for the stroker kit i was think 408w but considering a 393w to but talk to fullauto he has some amazing prices and really good prices on forged stuff good luck also is that car been on a diet or is it full intioer
i know a guy that has a 408 with tfs cnc heads thats 550hp at the flywheel. if ya really want to talk to somebody about what parts to put together talk to anderson ford motorsport. theyre number is217-935-2384, and theyre web site is www.andersonfordmotorsport.com they helped me out on this 331 im building. really nice guy and pretty smart too
If it isn't a late model roller style block putting a roller cam in it is going to be very expensive. Solid roller lifter are cheaper than the retrofit hydraulic roller lifters. If you buy a non roller block you will give up some power but for the money a hydraulic or solid flat tappet cam will easily give you your 450 horsepower goal and be streetable. Spend the money in the heads, that's where the power is at. A 750 is a great all around carb and if you are going to street drive it the smaller carb will give you aresponsive and snappy throttle.

I was banned for running off at the mouth...
Can't remember any specifics on my 408w kit, as it was a while ago..
All forged though...
Currently I am rebuilding it, and I should be seating the rings within a month.
Another source for stroker kits is this guy... http://www.fordstrokers.com/
I have worked with him, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Jim will treat you well.
This forum seems a little ban and blocked link happy ....................
393 or 408 is good ...... 427 is hard on everything for not much more power.
get stroker kit from fordstroker.
get head and cam combo from Jay Allen at www.camshaftinnovations.com ( tell him what you want and thats what you get )
have it put together by "sbf race engine" shop.
500+hp, done.
