Default Nasty Spin Out, No TCS

Hi guys -- first time poster here. Great site Got my 05 V6 Stang in December...and it is freaking awesome. However, when I bought it --used -- I cleverly didn't notice that it didnt have the traction control option.

So, a few weeks ago, in a light rain, I spun the hell out of my car on a highway onramp. Did a 360 INTO oncoming traffic. With my wife in the car. Yow. Luckily kept it off the divider and other cars.

Freaked out, I asked my dealer about installing the TCS option in my car. To my surprise, the dealer said this was 'impossible'. Called another one and got the same response.

My question to the good posters of this message board is --

1. Can I improve the stability of my car with other mods? Better tires (have the firellii options)? Stiffer rear differential?
2. Can non-Ford people install a TCS system?

Any help here would be greatly appreaciated.

Better tires should help....the stock BFGs are meant for minivans.

drjgame,

Lemme guess, you have an automatic?????

What you describe happened to me back when I was running my 429CJ Torino.

Getting on the highway, musta hit a slick spot and the transmission downshifted into 1st!!

H O L Y B A T S H I T F A T M A N !

Left side swung all the way around and in 2 seconds I was facing oncoming traffic!!

Spinning that 4000 lb b!tch around again was tough as hell!!!

I NEVER let the transmission shift for me inbad weather anymore!!!

Car designers apparently don't drive cars.

If your wheels spin, don't give them MORE power, give them less until they regain traction!

Another reason to NEVER use Cruise Control in the rain.

Ya, there's another story there with a not-so-happy ending...

Glad you and the Mrs are OK.

I spun out a 98 Sable(FWD) on the on ramp to the Long Island Express. Too much speed and SAND!! You can lose any car, anytime.

You can get a limited slip diferential (lsd). I hear it costs about 600.00 for parts and installation.
You can do a search in the forums for LSD.

Ford Trac-Lok LSD = $180, maybe another $400 to install it -- better than traction control.

Posi traction and wider tires will help.
