check air filter and fuel filter. You might not be getting enough gas or air or both

Yeah actually its funny you said that I changed both of them this weekend. I figured while I was doing all that work why stop there you know. I did notice there was brown sediment inside the fuel filter as some gas came outthough, you think that could be tied to it??? After I change the fuel filter put fuel cleaner and filled the tank up.

I'm not completly sure, I would say replace spark plugs. There are more people who would know like sleeper_inc, he seems to know everything. How long have you had the car?

6 months in my possesionI changed the plugs and wires too. It always has been running slow and I just can't figure it out. Had some mechanincs look(timing, vaccum system, fuel system)at it and they say nothing is wrong its just an old car which I kind of believe It has the oringinal engine pushing 128,000 miles nothing done to it but maintemce.

I sold it to my brother in law a month ago and he brought back to me so I can fixed it. I notice the clutch is slipping a little and slower than when I sold too him. Honestly I think he beats the sh** out of it. Plus It is his first stick shift car He learned on it and it is his first car.

Well the car I have a 79 2.3L auto stang, and it is my first car. I bought it for 300 and it didnt run but I got it rnning the next day by changing the fule filter. And the it quit running again and I am in the process of finding out whats wrong with it. You probly think its sluggish but you got to remember its a 4cyl with less then 100hp.

I wish I had the cash to take my car to a mechanic but I dont and when June 17th rolls around and it still doesnt run I will be very mad cause thats when I get my license (yay).

But hows the oil in the car?

tell him it is his car and to take it to a machanic to fix it if he can't and you don't want to.... sounds like it might ned to go further than plugs and wires for they are only as good as the power given to them replace the coil, higher spark better ignition. know what I mean? heck check the charging system with a volt meter at the battery that way you know the alternator is putting out enough juice to charge the system and supply enough for the car. does it have ac and if so does the clutch stay ingaged look at the front of it while the motor is turning is the center turning or not? seen that happen and you know the ac really puts a drag on these 4 cyclinders. oter than that you nedd enough air and fuel and be able to breath (exhaust) have you checked to see if the cats are starting to get clogged? while you are tuning it up replace the pcv valve it wont hurt and is real cheap too it takes pressure of the crank case. just some things to check out that are coming off the top of my head.

hellion_79 you have been told what to do. and you even said you messed with the timing because you said you moved it and it started back firing. read what I just told xmonielx and what I told you and get her running....
