I just finished pulling out the rear deck/factory amps, and the factory Mach 460 wiring harness I left alone for now. I'm going to hook up a 2-channel amp to run some new Infinity comps. Is there any way I can utilize the factory wiring so I don't have to run new speaker wiring through the doors? I'm sure I can, just want to be sure of the colors to use from on factory harnesses from the rear deck. There are black w/white, black w/ green on both door speaker 5x7s, and same colors on the two sets of fatter factory rear deck Mach harnesses. I am guessing I can use those, and I am also guessing the set closest to the driver side amp runs the drivers side speakers, and the other set to the passenger. Run new wires for your speakers. I would roll up your 460 wiring and zip tie it together and just tuck it away by your wheel well, you ever go to sell the car and it's all hacked off, someone will be pissed.
Its an 04. Was thinking about running new wires anyways, hate doing double work...Its seems much smarter and easier just cutting those two sets of wires only, not the whole Mach amp harness. Is there a good spot you all have found to mount the crossovers in the doors without interfering with anything?
there is alot of room in the door. Just make sure to keep it clear of the window going up and down as well as keeping it off of the bottom of the window which often collects water.
Thanks, I am going to use 3M tape to adhere them to the inside door panel. Now looking at the tweeters. I want to use the original Mach sail panel, what material should I use to make an adapter plate? Does type of material matter? I was thinking about using the plastic off of DVD cases, double it up with a layer of adhesive in the middle. Then make a cutout for the tweeter, and the Mach cover will provide pressure against the tweeter grill to keep it in place. Would be a tight fit, I mocked it up using some cardboard. Or is there another material I should be after. Thanks!
PReal has always suggested buying those HDF "wood" like clipboards and making templates out of that. To me that sounds like a decent material to do so with.
Sorry for the late timing, I already finished. I was thinking DVD case plastic was thicker...I broke down and bought a small sheet of 1/8" plexi for a buck, dremeled my holes, and it fit perfectly. I have Infinity 5010 comps, 2 10" L5s, a Power Acoustik 2-channel running my comps 100x2, and Kenwood XXV-03 1000x1(1ohm) running the L5s. I pulled them out of my ex-wife's truck a while ago, just got around to installing them. Man, I sure missed them. I ran out of 4 ga for the Kenwood amp, so I put in some 8ga for now. It's about a 1.5' length from power distro to the amp. The system is run with 2ga from batt to power distro. Will replace tomorrow morning. Will send pics later.
