I'm going to a club hosted drag day (racing, not dressing [8D]) this weekend and I am planning on running the car twice. Once against a 2007 base Steeda with 350 crank hp, and once against my buddies 2000 Vette with about 345 crank hp. My car has estimated 360ish so they should be all driver.
What is a good rpm to launch at - I don't want to lose because I'm stuck at the line spinning [sm=gears.gif] At such rpm level, is it a pretty quick pop of the clutch or do I still need to feather it a tad?

That's funny stuff! I had visions of Dustin Hoffman from the movie Tootsie launching a Mustang against Stormin Norman back in the day [sm=icon_rock.gif].
Launch RPM.....go conservative.....3000 or so (get a good idea where and how much your motor falls off during your test launches). As you suspect, you'll lose that racewith atire smoking start. Even if you get just an average start....you have catch up HP. So throw the 20 lb Trilene fishing line out and real them in.....
Clutchis feel.....higher RPM launchesget you closer and closer to "dump the clutch and let her rip territory".....but traction is a must. Street radials = somewhere between feather and dump. A few test launches are definitely in you future.
Hopefully, Polkster and others with a ton of recent tracktime will share their secrets.
The Steeda 2007 baseline from what I understand it to be is 335 crank hp with a Drag pack they claim to be "the fastest production mustang". They call it the Q335 and Steeda claims it goes 12.7 at 108 mph, they also have a Q400 12.2 at 113 mph and a Q525 at 118 mph. Of course I am sure the 1/4 mile times are a little bloated, I am almost 100% sure they dont make anything lower than the Q335 (there base car) With that said, being that you have 3.55 on your 2005 for gears and those 20 inch rims(boy there heavy)[:@], you may have a tougher time than you think with the steeda assuming its the Q335. With all that said who knows good luck and lets us know what happens. Numbers mean very little when your that close, its all about the driver. when I was N/A on street tires, 2500-3000rpms worked for me. As for the 2000 vette it runs I think low 13's so it should be a drivers race.......Good luck let us know what happens..

i havn't tracked or even launched my 06 yet, but from knowledge of my 01 with similar power... i had the 4:10 gears and i heated my tires up (better traction without waterbox) then gave it just a little bit of gas holding it at about 1200 rpm (tuned a little higher than stock idle @ 900 rpm) and dumped the clutch there. It was just enough to where i wouldnt spin off the line, but then again that was with a street tire, and i was getting 2.68 60 ft's.
if you run aradial .... launch it at 5500 [sm=icon_rofl.gif]
oh and yess..... drop your tire pressure down to at least 18 lbs. I think i ran my street tires at 9 lbs cause im crazy like that haha.

with my car i came out of the hole best at around 2600 to 2700 rpm, but mines superchargered rear gears will help 4.1s are great for the track, but if you do alot of long distance driving maybe a set of 3.90s would work theres just on enough of a change between the stock 3.55 gears and a set of 3.73s to justify the expense of havin it done
