Default overheating please help

My 1988 mustang lx 2.3 was not running at all so i changed the starter cellinoid, ingnition coil, Distributer, D. Cap and D. button( I did notice the distributer cap fit the opposite way?), Spark plugs, wires and poof it came back to life I so happy it works but I let it run for 20 minutes and coolent starts boiling and over flowing through the resevior tank connected to the radiator which for some reason the cap on that tank does not snap on it is loose. can some please shed some light onto what the problem could be? I am tired of reading the haynes manual because it is running me through extra steps that are probably not nessecary. Some please help.

I would check the small things first. Make sure your hoses are not leaking, then check or replace(I would replace) the thermostat.

not trying to impune your repair stills here, but did you intall it the correct way? Some people get them in backwards. If installed correctly then no that should not be the problem. I don't think the overflow tank cap being loose would affect anything. Again, check all your hoses/lines. Then check the water pump.

no offense taken, yes i put in the right way it has been working for months. I sold this car 2 months ago to my brother in law and he took it to a shop(midas muffler shop)to get the oil change they sold him on a new battery and radiator. After that the car has been having problems left and right i told him to take it back to them because they are responsible for but he insisted on that he wanted me to look at it. It died on him Sat. and would not restart since I changed all the stuff mentioned above and it finally started. so nowI dont know if they did something or what I am frustrated because they could have done any thingand now I'm stuck to figure it out you know hoses look good replaced them back in Dec. I have to wait till the car cools down to check the coolent level then I will check the pressure with the water pump on the upper hose yoursor anybody elses input is greatly appriciated.

LOL i agree with you 1000% but my brother in law gave me that look like when your dog pisses on your floor[] can you please take care of it the right way? so any way thanks for your help but I put a rubber ring around the reservior cap and it stop the air from getting in the radiator and now its runninggreat [sm=signs003.gif]who would have thought huh? he just picked it up and is happy andI told him the next time he decides to takeit to some idiot(midas in Des Plaines, IL) that shorted out the ingnition system by hooking up the wrong wires on the starter cell which i had to replace dont call me.

Thanks for your input 924 Banger [sm=smiley20.gif]
