Default 05 - 07 Install pictures/Replace Amps and Speakers

Ok, so I have spent hours looking at posts and have found bits and pieces of information but.....

Let's assume I have some experience with installing systems (since the 8 track days to you older folks know how long that has been) and I have some knowledge of electronics.

SCENARIO #1: Keep shaker head, replace amps and speakers (nobody said this was the best option but it is an option)

has anybody used devices like JL's clean sweep as a way to flatten out the factory EQ curve AND to allow for RCA outs to another amp?
are there othere less exspensive ways? I could just use the high level into my amp but I never did like that approach, too much (noise) crap in the system.

I have an Alpine head that I could just as easily swap out but that may be the second phase.

I am more interested in the wiring and replacement of the door speakers. Does anybody have pictures of the speaker swap? With all the digital cameras out there, there are few pictures....

I want a mid range system. I had JL XR's in my previous mustang and I like their tweeters so I would like to stick with that. Besides, in Canada, there is a real shortage of variety. So, I am looking at 5.25 components in the upper poart of the doors and I want a woofer that will fit without lots of mods. I see the Kicker will probably drop in but there is no a lot of variety on the market now. I am not a Pioneer fan so I am not big on their new line that would probably drop in too.

I am a musician and I mix our own music. I want tight bass. None of the flabby Rap stuff (if you like it, good on ya, it's not my thing). I don't need 120 db's either. I will probably look at 150 watts per for the upper speakers and 300 - 500 per for the woofers if I can find something that will work with that. The power is just to ensure it is clean at moderate levels and that is continuous RMS power.

Do you have any wiring diagrams of the speakers, both subs and upper doors? In my last Stang, I had a mile of wire running from the head to the trunk and back so I have that part figured out. I would rather follow a good install than to have to redo mine later.

The sound stage with the upper door speakers is kinda ****ty. I had mounted my XL tweeters on the upper pillars in my last car. It was pretty good but I am thinking a flush mount tweeter higher on the door would be better.

Has anybody documented the replacement of a shaker system in an 05 to 07 with picks and schematics?

I have a Vert so I am not concerned about a sub in the trunk nor the rear speakers unless somebody is aware of a speaker that will take some power and sound good back there as there is no enclosure. Something that is stiff and works well in an infinite baffle situation?

Lots of Q's but thanks for anythign you can offer!

The clean sweep is a pretty nice unit, if you want something better audiocontrol makes a similar product.

Being a musician you understand the desirefor highfidelity full range sound. Would you consider buying something besides the JL XR's. The shop I used to frequent had the XR along with three diamond lines on the wall. The bottom of the line diamonds had more midbass, smoother mids and highs, and a more laid back sound then the JL's did at three times the price. If you really like them, get them, but I would suggest listening to some more options before settling on JL.

As a personal preference, I would change the Hu. A clean sweep is nice, but a good quality HU will still be a cleaner source, and why spend all that dough to start with a dirty signal. I'd run a new Hu and start the signal nice and clean.

I'm not sure what size original speakers you car has, i beleive its 6x8's, but I would strongly suggest stepping up to a 6.5 woofer. The midbass increase from the extra surface area of the woofer is astounding.

Kicker speakers are not known for their sound quality, they are known for being loud.

What is your total budget, we cna make some recommendations.

Ok, so I do have an Alpine 9827 head. I may have to replace that and get one Sirius compatible. Any suggestions for a $400 or so range hu?

As far as speakers, if I can get more midbass then I would prefer to look elsewhere from JL. The stock door upper speakers are 6 X 8. I would want 5.25 components as I had a hell of a time modifying my other mustang to get 6.5's to fit. Besides, the lower speakers are 8" subs in the door (shaker 500 system).

My immediate problem is I don't know of any diamond dealers in my area (Edmonton, Alberta) so listening to them is a bit hard.... My budget for the upper door speakers is about $500 Canadian and the woofers, maybe $300 for a pair. I am not hung up too much on price but I need something realy nice....

My computer speakers are $1000 Blue Sky powered monitiors and I have some tasty home speakers that set me back $3000. It is to the point that I usually forget MP3's as I have to set the lowest compression ratio to be "almost" satisfied. a 320K sample rate is not bad for example. I am not opposed to spending some coin so if you have some options, I am all ears.

With that type of budget you can do a lot, here are some suggestions.

HU: Eclipse Dead Head: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3934

Front speakers including woofers:
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...roducts_id=510(These are $200 dollars over budget for your fronts, but are some of the best audio speakers made, period)

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=1111Also very nice, in budget but has 6.5 woofers.

Amp for comps: http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...roducts_id=529A little pricey.

http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=47might have to watch your gains

If you give mea hard budget, no matter how low, I can recommend some killer setups for the money.

$1500 - $1800 is within reason. Thanks
