When I saw the grille on the Parnelli Jones Mustang, it reminded me of the grilles on the Mustangs from the 60's. I decided to do something similar. I used chrome door trim from AutoZone. It came in a 10' roll. I installed the trim along the grille. The install was fairly easy, it just pushes in place. It's easier if you start in the middle of the grille just under the Pony and then work your way towards each edge. You can trim the excess with a pair of scissors.
When you close the trunk, it looked like the hood was the blocking the top, so I place another piece on the hood. However, when the hood was open, the top of the grill looked incomplete. I went back to autozone and bought a strip of wheel well molding and glued it onto the top of the grill. I had some left over, so I used it as trim on the fog lights. I like the thin chrome strip better then the larger ones available from various vendors that cover the entire foglight trim.
What do you guys think?

yes, I had the lower grille, the CDC spoilr, the mirrors and the antenna hole all painted at the same time. I took everything off the car and prepped it myself to save some money. The body shop did a great job on the antenna hole, you can't tell there was ever an antenna on the car and the color match was perfect.

No, the antenna hole was welded by the body shop.
I'll take some better pictures of the fog lights tomorrow. in the mean time, this is the closest picture I have. As you can see, the seam on the fog lights is visible .

the seam is pretty much hidden by the hood though unless you are looking up from the ground hehe. i was wondering more how the chrome strip fit on the black fog bezel. looks good in the closer pic. thanks!
Did this too mine as well. I know there are alot of people that aren't fans of the chrome trim but if you look at the cars the S197 is suppose to resemble, they have plenty of chrome trim, windows, door handles, bumpers, grills, wheels, etc.
I was in the garage lookin at mine, and grill bottem fits very flush to the top of the bumper, is that trim fairly flat and thin on the bottem ? Does it raise the grill up some ? Is it hard to push in place ? Likewise on the sides it fits flush to the head light post. Please advise and thanks.
It is not very hard to push in place. My best advice on installing it is to use a hair dryer and get the strip warm. It makes it much easier to bend around the corners. The strip is so thin that it doesn't move the grill too much at all. The thicker part of my strip is what you see. It took me some time to get it right, but just keep at it and you will be happy with the resuts. I was at a show on Saturday and got a ton of compliments on how "right" the trim looked.
BeeStang -
I agree 100% with you. These cars need a little chrome (in select places) to really look like the late 60's rides.
LegallyTourchRED - I started on the left side and slowly moved my way down and across and up the other side. Don't worry about running out of trim if you mess up. You will get waaay more chrome than you will ever need when you buy a package. Have fun!! Post some pix when you get her done.
Phunnyguy - I see no reason why it shouldn't work on a Pony Package Grille. Just take your time. The results with a Pony Grille will be really "Old School."

I got a 10' roll of the door edge trim for about $7.
I had trouble getting it around the bend in the grille. I found that by flipping the tabs on the lights and releasing the grille, the chrome piece went on fairly simple. The whole install took less then 15 minutes. I wound up getting the flat fender trim for the top of the grill so that when you open the hood, it does not look incomplete. ironically, the flat fender trim was more expensive then the door edge trim. Here are some pictures with the hood open and closed.
