one of the factors that the v6 is a better handler is the power to weight ratio. the gt is good, a better handler than the previous gt's, but it's strength is going in a straight line.

i completely disagree, i have v6 with no faults in suspension sway bars or anything of the sorts and i have driven a stock gt, the gt is much better handling wise i believe, the v6 is lighter blah blah but all the suspension in the gt and such is waayyy better than wut is put in the v6, look it up ull see

A stock GT will out handle a stock V6.  The suspension is better.  A modified (suspension) V6 will out handle a GT due to lesser weight (not a lot but some) and better weight distribution.  Without additonal power however, the GT will easily catch up on the straight-a-ways.

rear springs are the same (GT /V6)
GT front spring rates are different because of the extra vehicle weight
Front sway bars are a different diameter

GT has front and rear sway bars
05-06 V6 (non pony package) has only a front sway (small diameter)
05-06 V6 (with pony package) has small diameter front sway and GT rear sway bar

05-06  GT / V6 verts have different spring rates front and rear

How about the '07 Pony package, what does it have ?

It really should not handle all that different... Put a sway bay are on the rear of a v6 and it will take turns the same way. It just wont accelerate out of them the same way.

You purchased an optional package on your car but you didn't ask or look at the window sticker to see what it included?

i have an 06 v6 with the pony package and i've driven a stock gt.  Seems VERY close handling wise.  first of all the suspension stuff helps alot, but also the stock tires are just ****.  the pirrellis that come with the pony package (and the gt) help out alot.

Looking at the window sticker right now, says nothing about sway bars.  But the car does have sway bars - front and rear.

I would like to know if the diameter of the sway bars on the '07 Pony package are the same the '06 Pony.  And if the rear sway bar on the Ponies are the same or different than the GT sway bars.

Also are the rest of the suspension components the same or different between '06 and '07 Ponies ?

If anybody knows I would appreciate it.  I'll be doing an oil change tomorrow and maybe I will measure the diameter of the bars both front and rear on the '07 Pony.

Another point is the struts are all different part#'s on every model Mustang. Of course when you talk handling are you on a road course or going through cones? My base model V6 handles good but I'm not hanging corners either. I did just order a solid front swaybar and get rid of that stock tube swaybar. So I heard that will improve cornering. From what I read on this forum a good set of name brand struts/shocks do more to improve handling.

Clarifying the Pony Package swaybar:

the 06 and 07 pony package has the GT front sway and a smaller rear sway.

You are correct I had it backwards...

A new option package enabled buyers to dress base Premium models in GT trim. This $1195 Pony Package included small GT-style grille-mounted fog lamps and a rear spoiler, plus ABS and traction control. It also added a GT-inspired suspension featuring a larger front stabilizer bar, plus a rear stabilizer bar and P235/55ZR17 tires on painted cast-aluminum wheels. With bright machined rims and unique tri-bar Pony center caps, these were the largest factory wheels and tires ever fitted to a V-6 Mustang.

The info on spring rates is direct from the factory spec manual.

Thanks for the info GrayPony,

I measured the front and rear on my '07 Pony and this is what I get (I was using a caliper but didnt have it real tight on the bar since there was some road grime under there since it rained hard yesterday).

Front 1.350 diameter

Rear .725 diameter

These numbers look pretty close to the figures for the front sway bar on a GT, and maybe the rear bar on a GT Convertible ?

essentially yes the pwer to weight ratio is betetr in a 6 and the lighter engine up front helps. so if you put a v6 in a gt body n ran them against eachother the v6 will handle better lol. but essentially the gt is better stock.

Would buying the front & rear sway bars from a GT work for a V6?

Assuming everything lines up?

That's what I have on mine along with Roush rear springs to level the stance

Always comes down to how much you want to spend.

I like the stiffer suspension of the GT. Also like the manual transmission with 3.55 gears.

I have a V6 with Pony Package and am trying to find out if GT Takeoff shocks & struts would produce a stiffer ride on my car.  Do you have any idea if this would improve my suspension?  Also I love your black on the hood.  Did you have it painted and then clear coat applied to the entire hood?  What did something like cost?  Thanks!
