Tires make the biggest difference followed by strut/shocks, springs, sway bars. I've read the the GT's engine(all aluminum) isn't much heavier than the V-6's(iron block, aluminum heads) if at all. The difference in weight between the two is the transmission(on V-8 stick models), differential, the dual exhaust, standard TCS/ABS, suspension components, front brakes, cooling system(extra capacity means more fluid= more weight) and wheels. I'm sure a stripped deluxe GT(with 17" wheels) would not be more than a 100-150lbs heavier than a pony package V-6(3450 vs 3300), and it wouldn't all be on the nose, I believe the weight dist. is 53/47 F/R on either model, although I haven't seen a V-6 model(in any trim) post a .89G skidpad number like the GT does.........

Also I love your black on the hood. Did you have it painted and then clear coat applied to the entire hood? What did something like cost?

Thanks! I had the hood, chin spoiler, rear spoiler and blackout between tails done all at same time + clear coat. Stayed away from stickers and flat black because I wanted to continue to wax the whole thing. Took local body shop one week and $1,000.

Stole the hood idea from Steeda and the black in center of chin spoiler from the California Special. Bought the headlight splitters pre-painted and put those on myself. Also added black trim around tail lights to complete the look. I plan to add gloss black mirror covers and new black rims with chrome trim (2008) next.

The brakes on the Pony Package are no different than those on the base v6.  The only difference would be the possible additional sopping power that the Pirelli's may provide, which I cannot speak of.

4.0L SOHC V-6 is 16 lb lighter than 4.6L 3V V-8
T5 (V-6) is 30.5 lb lighter than TR3650 (V-8).
5R-55S is 4 lb lighter in V-6 version than V-8.
7.5" vs 8.8" Rear Axle
Single Piece Driveshaft vs Two Piece Driveshaft
TCS
Sway Bars
Spring Sizes
Fog Lights
16" vs 17" Wheels and Tires
etc

All adds up to 133 lb difference in shipping weight difference between V-6 and GT. Pony Package would close the gap some.

The shocks on the GT are not that great. I suggest the Tokico D's as a good all round shock which can be dialed to your preferrence.

BTW my GT-D had an official factory shipping weight (MSO) of 3353 lb or 3 lb UNDER Fords published 3356 lb so I dont think Ford is fudging the claimed weights.

Maybe when it was shipped, there was no gas in the tank.

If I remember correctly gas is like 8 pounds and change/gallon.

...Correction.

It's 6.25 pounds/gallon at 76 Degrees F.
