Would it be dumb to use your stock short block and buy all new internals? Shortblocks are kind of expensive.
I did use my stock block just had it bored .020 over to fix the scratches.

Well from start to finish it took since october when I pulled the engine. But I took My time and was in no hurry since I have other cars to drive. If I were to do again I would do it in Aug. (end of racing season) where the machine shop wasnt so busy and this would have all taken my just a couple weeks. I picked up the shortblock from the machine shop on tuesday and by thursday its sitting in the car.

If anybody is interested I am doing a 351w swap into my 91 gt this weekend. I am going to do another writeup and call it "351w swap for under $1000" and post it in the 5.0L forums.

She's done!!!!!!!!!! Started right up. Had some ticking but that was just the lash adjusters needing to fill, its gone now. Got to break her in now. Got some smoke coming from the exhaust but I think that is just the oil that was inside of the headers when the engine failed. Ill give more updates later and try to get a video.

Did you prime the engine before you started??  Also, I didn't see you use any assembly lube on anything, unless I wasn't looking hard enough..  Isn't that sort of a bad thing??

Excellent write up though, definitely helps those who haven't done any type of engine work..

Yes I did prime the engine. I pulled the fuse for the fuel pump and turned the engine for about 20 sec to get the oil pressure up. The shortblock they did use assembely lube for the upper part of the motor I used 30w oil.

I didn't even read all of that. I just subscribed. I'm sure it's some useful information. Especially since I know nothing about how to build an engine.
