went to AutoZone to get the antenna but they didn't have one on stock, so I had the guy look it up for me and the only one that came up with was  part# 44UA200. looks the same and has the same L.E.D but I'm just not sure if it the same. I added a link that sells the same one I can get through AutoZone for 20.00, but I was wondering what you think.

Ryan, looks the same to me.  But, that site says that they're out of stock.

I'd imagine Autozone can order you one and be there in a day or two.

That's one awesome write up; thanks, I'm likely going to try that setup as the TuneTrapper is not that effective.  If anyone knows of the keyed 12v wire to the radio please let us know.

I'm also wondering if there is a "radio on" 12v output from the std radio (no shaker), could use that and also if I'm still not satisfied I may have to go to a power exterior antenna and would need this.  If you do know about this would you please clue me in, thanks.

TacoBill,

Thanks for that great write up. Did you ever get a chance to try it out with AM? I listen to a lot of sports radio..

Thanks,

Rusty

TacoBill, another great write up.......question...I noticed in this write up you have the stock shifter in your stang, didn't you install the MGW shifter?
Unless of course this install was actually done before the shifter.......

Sorry Rusty, haven't had the chance to drive my car since Wed night, I'll check tomorrow for sure.

The ad on the website does say that it's a FM/AM amplified antenna, so I'm hoping for the best.

Bingo!

I did this mod several months ago.  I'm in the process of duplicating most of my write-up here in MF.

great writeup, doesn't seem worth all of that trouble to me though

i have a shorty antenna and it's about the same reception as before, if i grow uphappy with it, i'll just throw the stocker back on though.

good info though.

Interesting, say can you tell me how you actually "use" the  pin 2 of the J1 connector; (how this is done?)  Also, do you know where I could get the pdf schematic for the std radio?  thanks!!!

Sorry it took so long...  But, I bring good news.  AM stations come in strong! (at least the most popular stations).

I just installed this antenna on my car yesterday, thanks to this writeup and the one from ODiaz. Of course I also used the time to install two little buttons, one for my line locks and a trunk release button.

fairlane- I spliced into the wire to that connector then twisted in the antenna wire. You could cut it and sodder them all together, but I didn't think it was necessary. In the link I posted there is the schematic for the radio - you can download it from there

Thanks TacoBill!  I just got my antenna put in using your instructions.

A couple notes from my installation:

1.  I found the same power plug you did hiding in the console.  The switched power wire for me was purple and the 'always on' was yellow.

2.  Reception on FM was unaffected whether or not the antenna was powered.  Powering the antenna definitely improved AM reception however.

3.  The old antenna plug I pulled out of the back of the Shaker looked like a coax connection with a collar on it.  The new antenna looks more like an RCA connector.  The new antenna lead did fit but it doesn't feel like a positive engagement.  Seems to work.  We'll see long term.

another cool one, i may go do this right now!

bill, it's funny how u were talking about fishing the wire behind the console. i did footwell neons (can make a write up if anyone wants) and like an idiot i put the sets of wires together from both the neons before positioning them. at first i thought id have to tear the wires appart and start over, but i found out that u can actually fish an entire neon tube behind the console. it's quite spacious back there.
