Short throw shifter

98ponycar -> Short throw shifter (4/17/2007 10:49:22 PM)

Has anyone driven a car with the Tri-Ax, and one with the Pro 5.0 short throw shifter?  I'm probably going to purchase one in the next couple weeks, and am leaning toward the Pro 5.0.  Any experiences?

I've driven a car with a Tri-Ax, did it today, yesterday, and for about 7 months before that. I love it. From what I've heard of people who have had both, the Tri-Ax is better.

Is it really that important? I dont try to race anyone, but it would be nice to have shorter and more controlled shifts......think its worth it? What about ebay cheapos?

I wouldn't trust a cheaper one, due to the fact that it is possible to "over-shift" into your gears and cause severe damage, which is why all "respectable" brands have adjusters and so forth. I wouldn't cheap out on an item that controls the 2nd most expensive component of your vehicle!!!

how bout mgw short shifters ne good?

stang_girl_03 -> RE: Short throw shifter (4/18/2007 7:36:07 AM)

i have driven pro 50 (in my car) and mgw (my boyfriends car). I like the pro 50 better it shifts smoother.  the mgw kinda klunks into gear

i love my tri-ax, it's a mod you will appreciate every time you drive your car.

All the decent brands pretty much work the same.  I love my pro, but that is the only short throw i have driven.  You will like whatever you get, i do recommend getting a new shift knob though to complete the look and feel.  I got mine here...

i will take a picture later or so.

i actually just ordered a steeda tri-ax, looking forward to seeing the diffrence

I would also recommend the gasket as well.  You wont have to worry about dealing with the sealent and letting it dry.

yeah the gasket is nice, especially if you take it out again to change the transmission fluid like I did, makes it very easy to bolt right back in w/o having to deal with sealant.

I have the tri ax and have drove the pro 5.0  and I like how short the shifts are in the 5.0....the handle maybe shorter on the tri ax but the shift isn't  coming from someone who knows

MGW's are the bomb. Everyone I know that has one has no complaints at all!! And yes, I have one too![;)]

jthorn9 -> RE: Short throw shifter (4/18/2007 6:56:43 PM)

To put it simply, the Tri Ax and Pro 50 have the same short shift ratio, so it's stritcly a matter of which one you want. I have the Steeda, others have the Pro, but the MGW, from what I've heard, is far better, and it's fully adjustable, it just all comes down to rather or not you want to pay the price for it.

What?? www.mgwltd.com  the MGW is the best shifter out there and costs as much as the others...$179
stangshifters.com has both pro-50 and tri-ax at $169, $179...

I've converted over two cobra buddies of mine from tri-ax shifters after driving my car... svtperf. has a long thread about MGW.. Now think, if it's that good cobra's are talking that much about it.. it'll be great for you..

Durr727 -> RE: Short throw shifter (4/18/2007 7:47:25 PM)

I have the Steeda, and was my best mod imo, along with the lowering and wheels.

kraz3y -> RE: Short throw shifter (7/5/2007 5:28:07 AM)

orderes mgw...lets ssee how it goes!

JimmyKragen -> RE: Short throw shifter (7/5/2007 8:22:36 AM)

I ordered the tri-ax yesterday from Autobadges, can't wait to throw it in this weekend and test it out. I'll let you know how it goes.

Cmpfreak88 -> RE: Short throw shifter (7/5/2007 9:32:24 AM)

I got a Tri-Ax as one of my first mods and it really did make the car so much more fun to drive every time I drive it! It's got a really nice solid feel to it and makes ripping through the gears so much more fun! [sm=gears.gif]

I do remember after ordering mine though reading this whole thread about how great the MGW was and then kicking myself for not researching a little bit more! The MGW seems like a great shifter and if they're the same price you might want to try that route, but you can't go wrong with the Tri-Ax either and Autobadges.com has great service and great prices on those Tri-Ax shifters.

Autobadges.com -> RE: Short throw shifter (7/8/2007 2:57:09 AM)

steeda tri ax vs Pro 5.0

Steeda wins..smoother and cleaner shifts

5.0 is known to be too short and harder
