YOU WILL HAVE TO POST PICTURES OF THAT ENGINE WHEN ITS CLEAN!! I think you will be surprised how well that engine cleans up. Mine looked sorta the same, i got some good foam degreaser, and hit it 3 or 4 times, came up great.

Original......The only thing I would say is if you do buy rims, keep it period correct with same year GT wheels, and keep the originals for later. Good luck on your choice...
It's pretty obvious that if you were to take a vote, that we would vote to have you keep it stock. And, that is from a forum which is mostly restomod mustangers. Think about it. It's a classic cruiser, and was never meant to be raced.
Soaring is right, that car is not a race car. You can get 50 more hp with a few modifications but you will still have the suspension and brakes of a cruiser. Clean it, cruise it, and cherish it.

I would sell that to a collector. You could probably buy one heck of a restomod with the price you could get from that car. I dont picture conv. as being hot rods. more cruisers.

I would agree with eZ. Sell it and do like I am doing. You can take any car and restomod it. But one that is all original after 40 years really deserves to be kept original. Find a qualified museum or collector that would enjoy that level of originality that may make that thing a concours winner.
But once changed, it loses its "original" honor badge. JMHO, and like everybody has already said, it is your car....
In reply to 67 evil eleanor, I couldn't find the "carbureter" stamping on the fuel pump. Where is it? Also, I am convinced. With the audience of restomoders out there I am suprised that the overwhelming majority are in favor of keeping "Ginger" a stocker. Might still order some styled steel wheels though. I have always loved them. I can always bolt the whitewals back on anytime I want.
So where is a good website or link to an engine compartment detailing? I know that there are some out there. Anyone done one that has some good tips, tricks, or techniques?
Ooohh. I hadn't considered the Magnum 500s. I will have to find a pic of some 65 or 66 with the Magnums and compare. Good idea. Anyone out there have pics so I can compare?
That looks like a super clean original car, being that it is a vert, v-8 auto, i say leave it stock, if you do anything to it just make sure you can put it back stock if you ever want to

I used to be a keep it stock person. However, what are you going to do with it? If it is going to be a garage queen and a show car, keep her original. If you are going to drive it, go somewhere in between.
I started out with my 73 being stock, however, the AC couldn't keep up, I wanted more horsepower, a better radio ect. After two power tours, I want a little more comfort than stock. But I don't want to take the car too far away from original, if that makes sense.

I would do some minor mods to the engine like a new cam and maybe a new carb and intake manifold. But keep the original parts since it you have the orginal window sticker and sales reciept, it's not to often you come across that. Just get a few more horses running under the hood and leave, but that's just my opinion.
i am starting to feal guilty for the little things i have done to mine. When i got it, it was all original. after the exhaust, i am done, i just think a mustang should be loud.
