$5000 you can put down 400whp which is sick, but for the same amount of money i can put down a whole bunch more in a mustang. srt4's are nice cheap, fast cars but its a personal choice on if you like them or not. tommy if you get your ass handed to you in dead stops by a neon I think you better better go back to driving school.

Derek

but you have to factor in the original cost of the car. Neon $20,000 stock = 230 whp, $5,000 in mods = 400 whp. 2005 Mustang GT $25,000 base = 290 whp.
Neon wins.

rolling has the idea, why can't most people get it. bang for the buck. and 25 mpg if you drive normal. and it is built for FI, a mustang GT is not. i would not get one but i am not going to rip on something because it is not a v8 or RWD

you know I had a lil ole pontiac sunbird 4 banger with turbo that would just spank alot of stang...most could pull around me til about 85-90 mph which would be like a 1000 foot....we as ford people so to speak must put big pressure on ford to build us a faster car the 05 isn't going to get at all hell you can't even put 11" slicks under it and the engine mangement system stalls any burn outs!

Matt, a mustang GT does not put down 290 whp. Not even close. Bone stock the best times you can see from either a GT or an SRT-4 would be high 13's, so out of the box they are about even.
Derek, I didn't race the guy from a roll but when we were at a light I guess he thought I was gonna race and when he took off he spun pretty badly. I spin really bad too from a stop though so who knows what woulda happened? I have seen a coupla SRT-4s at the track that get better times than me though, low 13's/high 12's, compared to my mid 13's.

'05 mustang's put out around 275 rwhp stock, with just a tune MPH got 300 rwhp out of an otherwise stock '05

Oops, I was thinking '04. I am a dumbass. The '05 GT's are about equal to LS1 fbodies.

Besides, the SRT-4 still looks like a NEON with a wing. If I had to buy a econo-box I'd buy the SRT-4, but still...

This debate gets so old...so fast!

Ever driven one, or even know anything about the new PCM's that run the traction control????
I guess not. Because the traction control detects how much throttle you use and allows for a burnout. I did a brake stand in the new 05 also.

yeah i do///as I hope you know it has an ectricronic throttle control when the ECU senses that the engine is turning too fast for a given wheel speed it switches into shut down mode...you might had been about to do a very small burnout but drag racing type... the computer has to be over ridden.....try that on smart guy!

FRPP has a chip which allows 05s to do burnouts, but it voids the warranty. and the electronic throttle body sucks IMO. i have seen an 05 with 315/35/18s on it, and those are wider than 11"

well im not kissin your ass, although its a mighty fine ass im sure, but i actually prefer wrx's if im gonna go with a compact. awd and get the sti and HAUL. my next car is a '05 or later legacy gt though, all the way...

now i get it, you mean most bang for you buck... well true, but fox bodies are cheap cuz they are older cars and all that, and simpler in many ways. neons are cheap cuz... well, theyre cheap.

Being an owner of both a classic muscle car (600WHP) and also a sport compact (WRX - 300WHP), I can see both sides of this debate. What it really boils down to is preference in cars. My 4-banger can smoke damn near any unmodified V8 and that in itself if pretty impressive for an engine so small.

What I find to be a problem are the SRT-4 groups that tend to think they walk on water. They do have a nice car (if thats the type you prefer), but to be honest, they are only good on the fly. I haven't seen one yet that was good off the launch (front wheel drive sucks). The price of the car also makes it affordable for some dumb kid to buy it and act our their "fast and furious" fantasy.

In a nutshell, its not the car... its the person behind the wheel.

truly enough, but yeah, that car IS fwd and will never perform off the line, wrx's are not anything like that car. they are actual sport compact performance. my friend had a 227hp variety and that was pretty fun. wrx is NOT in the class of a srt in any way, and it should be said that its an H4, not an I4, seems to help it out alot.

Wow, I just saw this thread. I have an 04 SRT4 and would be happy to answer any questions you guys might have about the car. My car is not running 100% right now, but if anyone is in the Vegas area and would like to set up a race, let me know.
