Default BEST Saleen / Roush STORY?? POST UP!!

Ok, this should be fun. I've seen posts on other enthusiast forums where people poststories they have of people noticing their cars, taking pictures, asking about it, racing against you, or just plain staring like a crazed lunatic!!

In each instance, the thread ended up being one of the most fun to read and add to.

What started me thinking about it again today is I had a middle-aged dude try to race me: My Saleen PJ against his Taurus! Mind you, it was black with tinted windows (might have been in SHO). I was cracking up - we did a roll-on from 60 to around 85, and he smiled and waved at me - then we went back to the morning commute.

It wasn't much of anything, but it got me smiling and appreciating the awesome cars we all have.

I also had, not one or two - but three different guys from different ages / backgrounds stop while I was gassing up a few weeks ago. The older guy was in an old Ford farm truck. He had some stories about seeing Parnelli race when he was younger.

Cool stuff

So everyone with a Saleen or Roush on this board should have at least a few stories since I've only owned one of these for a few months!

POST UP!

C'mon Jazzer, Axe, Polk !!

Let's hear 'em.

Cheers,

Chuckdoc

I raced an SRT-4 stage something or rather on the highway a few times. The first couple races I oblitterated him, then on the third race I just left the car in 4th and still barely won. The kid pulled up and was so excited, "I almost had you on that one, our cars are pretty close." I didn't have the heart to tell him that I didn't really try on the last one.

My most recent trip to the emissions test outpost.....GA's finest if you will. I had a kid testing my Saleen that was well versed on the latest readings from Motor Trend, Road and Track, etc....and westarted swapping stories about cars (Camaros coming back out, old school Mustang GT's, etc...).

When he looked inside my Saleen he started with the questions......boost and H2O tempgauge....what's that....is that stock?? Under the hood.....supercharger and CAI.....IS that all stock??Funniest part.....I'mpaying for the emissions test behind the car and he says....what are they doingwith the center dump exhaust?? I got about two words into an explanation and he said...."you know what, even if that doesn't have a functional purpose.....it's cool as hell.....gives the car a refined look"!

SALEEN.......Unsolicited Compliments always Welcomed

I had an 89 Fox Body Saleen #709 (sold Last year after 15 years of ownership)) that I drove to work once in awhile. I was living in Southern NH in 92 and I was driving home from work at about 11;30 at night on a RTE 495 in Massachusettes and ThisChevy Typhoon (the awd 280HP Blazer that Chevy made for a couple of years) wanted toget it going so we did a roll on at about 60 and he got a good jump on me but at about 75 I blew past him and we went like this for about 2-3 miles and he just could not get me . About 4 -5 cars behind me. (my carhad GT 40 Turbo Swirls Aluminun Heads ported and polished, E 303 CAM, 65 MM TB , the ported and polished Saleen Intake and fuel pump etc) I hit .a little north of about 140-145 and the car I have to say hunkered down like a Race car and felt great. We pulled over in a town called Haverhill found an empty parking lot and just sat an BS'd for about 25 minutes complimenting each others cars/trucks. I like those AWD Blazers I have to say. . It was a great run and I will never forget it.
I have an 04 SC Convertible now and have not had the opportunity to get going with it yet. only had it since July of LY Not sure if I have the stones anymore go go that fast on the hwy nor want to. Age 40 seems to have mellowed me a little :0) or wisened me up:0.

Anyways these cars atany year get loooks and compliments no matter what yearthey are. They are just great to own and are unique in their own right.

Peace.

I was driving my new '07 Liztick Red S281SC home to Reno from Irvine last week. I was doing about 75 in a 65 zone when I noticed a cop car pulling up behind me. Crap! I slowed to 65 but he stuck with me. After a minute or so he pulled along side me and just paced me for about 15 seconds. Finally I looked over at him; he picked up his microphone, said "Nice car!" through the cruiser's speakers, waved, and accelerated off.

I was driving one cool evening at few weeks ago, to pick up my dinner (my wife is in nursing school, I do Chinese a couple of times a week), when a car started to ride my bumper, I couldn’t tell what type of car it was or what the problem might be. I slowed down hoping to get him off my bumper but he persisted, there was nowhere to pull over to let him pass, I grew annoyed and gunned it, he stayed with me for a moment but then the boost kicked in, I got the separation I was looking for and he could not keep up. I slowed and he stayed back. I reached my destination and he followed me. He drove around the lot, the 2006, Z350 pulled next to me, he asked me how much HP, I told him about 365 at the crank, he said he was a little less them that (I figured), we complimented each other on the cars and discussed virtues of midlife crises vehicles.

I've got three, I'll keep them short & sweet:

1) Was cruising along a city street when a 70's Chevelle came up beside me at a stop light. We were both in the front position so it was perfect. Looked like a teen on a high school date. My car is loud thanks to the O/R pipe but I didn't goose it. Had no intention of starting a race. He reved the car up like teens do and I just kind of grinned. He took off peeling out and I let him stay ahead about rear to front wheels. As I approached 3k I slammed it down and blew by (with the exhaust screaming), as I was shifting to 2nd. It was perfect because the tires spun right as I was beside him and of course as I continued on ahead he could hear the car and realized he should have kept his car's mouth shut

2) Got pulled over for 70 in a 55. I couldn't believe it, told the cop I was cruising at about 63 and even saw him thinking it was a safe cushion. He asked if the car was stock and I told the Saleen "quick" story, and he said the speedo is probably off becuase of the bigger wheels. We both agreed and he handed me a warning and said "Beautiful car, just slow it down and get your speedo checked"

3) Was at a car show when a group of guys walked up to the front. One guy was the apparent ring leader and proceeded to tell his buddies everything that was wrong with my car and why it wasn't real - pointing here and pointing there. I was sitting in the shade behind the car, and when he was done talking I politely showed him and his buddies to my trunk display where I proudly display my Saleen Window Sticker and Saleen Letter of Authenticity. Thanks for knowledgeable insight.....PUNK [8D]

OMG - I forgot my best one of all!!!

Taking part in a Pony Trail cruise and heading back to homebase for the evening were four of us SCOA members. I was in the lead with3'99-'03 S-281 SC"s behind me. We were on a very nice country road and we came up on a Trans Am WSR (or whatever it is). He was doing about70 and showed no signs of life. I could see in my rear view that my buddies wanted to motor on, so I took charge and we all blasted by him. We all have o/r exhausts, and it was a nice "windows down" type of day so we had to scare the sh!t out of him I hit about 125-130 (didn't pay too close attention and the tight speedo is tough to read anyway), so with my already proven to be off speedo I figure I hit 135ish to 140. The others let off around 115-125.

To this day it was the most open strech of smooth, straight, unadulterated (that means un-intersected for this story ) country road I had ever seen. It fealt VERY safe & stablefor those of you that might be wondering.

There - hope that is what you were seeking Chuck

This is a timely subject. My first race with my new 07 Saleen SCwas just tonight 4/12. I was on my way home from a cruise down the blvd at the beach when two guys, sporting sun glasses and polo shirts wit turned up collars, driving a 2007 Cadilac CTS-V, filled my rear view mirror. Nothingpisses me off more than someone right up onmy rear bumper. So I down shifted to 3rd and put some separation between us and the mini van that was beside me, then slowed. Ok, maybe it wasn't just to give him room to pass, but it was a not so subtleinvitation. So here he comes again, right up on my rear again. The CTS-V is no slouch with a 6.0L V-8 and 400HP, 0-60in 4.9sec, 1/4 in 13.1 sec.He down shifted and was coming around me fast. Ashe was approaching my driver side door I decided that he would be my first victim. I down shifted to 3rd and from about 55mph to 120mph, I put about 50 yards between us. Ahh it's all in good fun.

Group of kids in mom's suv rolled down the back windows, leaned out and snapped a ton of cell phone pictures of me on the way home from work on Monday. They asked where I bought it at the stop light and I asked if they had been to the store in Irvine (they had).
