Hello, I'm new to forum and figured I'd get right into it. I am S_L_O_W_L_Y rebuilding a 1966 289 V2 coupe. I have done a little research on 351 W heads from 69 or 70 and have found a pair of D0OE heads for less than $200.00. Theyhave had some reconditioing as I can see hardened valve seatshave been installed. The guy I got then from stated he ran them on his later model 302 and decided to go with aluminum heads. These heads also have guide places, screw in studs, and HD springs, and a full ARP bolt and reducer kit. I could not let them go by as I would like to keep this car at least vitnageFORD. The guy I purchased them from was not very useful as I seemed to know more than he did about this head and I only know enough to be dangerous. Is there anyone out there who has actully run these heads on a 289 that can tell me if I'm wasting my efforts?I have confirmed these heads are 60CC chambers and they do not appear to have been decked. I am not a mechanic by anymeans, but if it can be taken apart I usually do it!!!!!
PS. I am building this car for my daughters first ride. She turned 2 last Saturday. She makes it a point to include sitting in her "stang" at least once a week or so as a form of one of her favorite things to do. How's that for planning from a guy who has never planned in his entire life.

Leave them alone, unless your ready to change the pistons, to raise the compression back up. Without doing this it'll run like a dog with very low compression. Also bear in mind they have more holes for the intake than the 289 / 302 intake.
I bought an engine that had been heavily modified with 351 windsor heads and eventually built a 331 stroker with alloy heads.
i had C9OE 351w heads on my 302 until the crank snapped in a zillion pieces last week...... they are an excellent upgrade over stock 289/302 heads and you will be very happy with them. (btw you got a deal for a worked over pair for 200 bucks) you already have the head bolts, all you need for a proper installation is 351w intake gaskets (that have the dog legged shaped water passages) and you dont need to worry about the extra intake bolt holes next to the dog legged passages.
btw, with the 60cc heads your compression shouldnt suffer too bad at all, but as a precautionary measure i would have them brought in for a valve job / resurface just so they are fresh and tight with new seals and flat mating surfaces. while they are milling them just ask the guys to knock off an extra .010 or .015 and that'll drop the chamber size by a few cc's

+1 ,,,
I have run the numbers through my computer and I have come up with about 9.2 to 1 for 60cc chamber heads with a .04 gasket, and -4cc pistons, (flat tops with valve releifs).
This should be an acceptable C/R for a street engine.

If you are not quite as smart as you think, are you smart enough to know?
Sure, because they're available at most pick-n-pulls. Besides being very expensive because of their collector value, by the numbers in my book, they have the same sized chambers and valves. As for the 351W head swap, if you go that route you want the '69 heads with the 59cc chambers, converted to screw-in studs and pushrod guide plates. This was a hot mod back in the day (I had port and polished '69 351W heads with 1.94/1.60 valves in my '65 GT), but with the plethora of heads out there now, it doesn't make as much sense IMO. If you want to keep it original looking and pick up some performance, get a pair of World Products 58cc cast iron heads and go to town!
[edit] I see you say they are the 60cc head, oops.

59 cc = 9.3 to 1
60 cc = 9.2 to 1
The OP can get these for $200.00, with screw in studs and guide plates, seems to bea good deal to me!
