Default 10 1/2 rim issues

I've been looking at 17 x 10 1/2's for the rear, I realize that the wheels will just come under flush with the top of the wheel well, but my concern is there's alot of rubber exposed top down. For anyone who's run these, are you mopping up after battle scars on your paint ? One last question, I've noted some of you are running 285's on these rims but the common spec seems to be 315's any issues ? Last I want is for the top of the tire to look pulled in, I really don't need a soft drag radial just running street and for appearances sake.

Cheers

you can run 275/40/17's in front and 315/35/17's in back.... no problem
