The other night my buddy's bone-stock 1996 Z28 Camaro with a 6spd and 150k miles raced a brand-new automatic 2007 Mustang GT.  They went heads up from a dig.  The Mustang won by half a car (the Z28's nose was at the Mustang's door).

The Mustang guy says the Camaro was pulling back on the top-end and my buddy in the Camaro says that he would've won if he hadn't bogged on the launch.  Anyway it was an excellent and very close race with the Camaro doing much better than I thought it would.

Good runs, way to rep the LT1 if though he lost. Atleast put up a fight

No kidding.  That Camaro has been pretty much abused (not neglected, but abused) throughout it's 150k mile life.  And only one thing has ever gone wrong with it:  my buddy burnt his clutch out.  The car still has the stock opti.  It never even had the oil and intake fix and has never leaked.  Never.  Guess I better knock on wood though.  I'm kinda jealous because my car hasn't clicked over 90k miles on it yet and I've busted the rearend twice, replaced the opti, and either my shocks or springs are bad.

People with 05+ stang GTs here on mustang forums says that "Oh LT1s are piece of cake, i raped one yesterday, i raped one today, da da da" but then the same people says " can i take this Srt-4?? how fast are they? it is pretty close race, da da da"

WTF??!?!?!?!?! LT1 runs high 13s or low 14s on a 1/4 mile and SRT-4s does the same. how come LT1 is pice of cake and srt-4 is close race? I have owned both and i say a well driven LT1 vs well driven S197 is a close race but S197 will win everytime! NOT RAPE!!

My LT1 felt as fast if not faster from a roll than my old 06 stang GT.

I love f-bodies!! VERY respectable cars. people talk sh*t to LT1s a lot but they forget, that LT1s were beating some butts in 1993+ the only mustangs would beat them or be very close was cobras. LT1s still gives  hell of a good run to 99-04 GTs. some respect please!!

LT1s are probably right now, a better bang for the buck than even the LS1.  Or at least they are for us people to brook to afford even an LS1, lol.

I wanted to stroke mine. H/C/I and all the bolts on + nitrous but then i got the cobra. I still wanted to have the cobra as  DD and make that LT1 my race car but i can't afford to mod 2 cars so i decided to mod the cobra and sell the LT1 and i will see if i can sell her!

No one says LT-1's are dog slow, but the S197's can beat the LT-1 Vettes. a properly driven S197 should beat a Lt1 convincingly everytime. I hardly knew how to drive stick and i ran a 13.9 with the s197.

LT1's can run high 13's as well.. infact ive heard of them going as deep as a 13.6 with a professional driver with a 6 speed and the better factory gearing.

Normaly they are right on par with a new edge GT or an SN cobra.. low 14's/high 13's but they will pull more on the top end.

I would think that the Mustang would have slightly better top-end pull; the LT1 runs out of steam sooner than the LS1 and the 3V 4.6 seems to be a decent race for Ellis (with the 5.7 getting the edge). The LT1 traps around 100, what do those auto 3V 4.6s trap? Maybe the Camaro in this case had an advantage with the 6-speed?

I've seen  the auto trap around any where from 99-102, im thinking 99mph ones dont power brake when taking off.

I agree they probibly can run high 13's, but most S197's run Mid 13's . S197's are alot faster then the old 2v Gt. From the numbers you said Lt-1's pull they should handily beat a New Edge.

a friend of mine I went to the track with has an A4 96 formula... he was bone stock except for catback and CAI... he went 14.0's-14.2's

after his rear end faultered he went and put a 12 bolt in the back with 3.73 gearing and a yank 3500 stall.... just after those thing's he was 13.4-13.6 all day

LT1 is a great engine, people tend to forget that because it is overshadowed by the LS1.

The LT1 is definetly no joke it was extremly powerful for its time.93-97...It smoked every Mustang GT that rolled off the assembly line from 93-97 also.A 99-04 GT versus a 93-97 Camaro z28 is a very close drivers race.I raced my buddy a few years back when my Lt1 was almost stock with the exception of CAI and TB air foil,he had a 2000 GT he just bought with no mods. Both of our cars Manual.I took him by about 2 car lenghts from a highway pull.Came down to 275HP 325TQ versus 260HP 302TQ at the time.
