Default Oil and Filter Promotion

I don't know if this applies to all Autozone stores, but mine is offering x5 qt. of Castrol GTX motor oil AND x1 Fram oil filter for $12 plus tax (limit x2 per visit)...a great deal if you don't mind the prementioned brands. I hope they have this type of deal often. I bought x2 sets just in case.

I am not too familiar with comparisons between motor oils and filters (fully sythentic, natural, brand, etc.) Personally, I could not justify the cost of fully syntheitc Mobil 1 oil and Mobil 1 oil filter which generally seems to be the preferred choice when it comes to higher end products. Anybody have good independant reference data? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a good deal. I run Castrol 20W-50 in my 88 Harley. I'll call them and see if the have the PH6065A HD filter. Thanks.

Royal Purple
K&N Performance Gold Oil Filter

It would take a lot of convincing to get me to use anything else.

considering....

Mobil 1 Extended oil fully synthetic (15,000 mi./ 1 yr. intervals)
Mobil 1 Extended filter (15,000 mi./1 yr. intervals)

I only drive about 11,000 per year, if that, and the total price per year versus petroleum every 5,000 mi. balances out. So..same price in addition to any advantages that comes with using synthetic. Have any of you guys heard of Amsoil oil and filters? They market 25,000 mi. intervals.

I'm kind of embarresed for asking an oil question, but I'm just living up to my title = NEWBIE...heh
