Beautiful though - just beautiful. Imagine how many more GT's they could have sold if it looked like that in the first place...[&:]

I love those rims better too. I think that looks waaaay better then the current shelby. 1000 cars+ Dealerships X Demand + Ski Mask = Highway Robbery then convert that into US dollars and you are only paying 80 grand but compared to a Z06 you get a back seat!:D

As much as I like the Stangs, $100K for a Mustang is just not worth it IMO. You know dealers will be throwing markups at it to break the $100K mark.

You can buy the whole GT500 front end and hood from a dealership parts counter correct? That means you should be able to buy the parts for the GT500KR front end also right? Anyone have any insight as to what that would cost? What do the GT500 parts run? I imagine you'd need the hood, bumper, and grill... do the fenders need to be swapped?

That car looks amazing! How much can you get for a kidney? ;)
At the risk of being flamed, in order to make sure all the information is out there, if you are going to go for the GT500KR look with your stang, rather than buying the GT500 parts from the dealership you might also consider this: http://www.fangperformance.com/php/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page &PAGE_id=16&MMN_position=23:5
IMO it makes the car look pretty damn close to the '68 and the hood is functional.
Like I said, not taking anything away from the new one, just want to make sure all the options are out there.

Hehehe, do I dare say it? I've been on the list for one since late '06 (in anticipation of Ford being on a nostalgia roll). In fact, I'm the first one on the list at my Ford dealer where I bought my Mystichrome. (And no, I'm not trading in the Mystichrome for it.) I guess you could call me a sucker for special editions! Honestly, I wasn't too happy with the '07 GT500 when it came out, but I have a gut feeling that the '08 GT500KR will have several improvements that will make up for its inadequacies. And if it's a total sham, I'll wait for the Boss when it comes out (guessing in '09, another 40th anniversary of the original, lol).
Only 1,000 units ... Back in '04 when I bought my Mystichrome, back in '04 when certain Ford dealers were SVT dealers as well, every SVT dealer was allocated at least 1 Mystichrome Cobra. And if the dealer's SVT sales were high volume or whatever, they then got 2 Mystichrome Cobras. The dealer where I bought mine, Villa Ford of Orange, California, got 2 = 1 coupe and 1 convertible. I bought the vert, of course. And there was a total production of 1,010 Mystichrome Cobras made.
But in '08, I'm not sure how they're gonna allocate these GT500KR's to the dealers. Maybe strictly to dealers with excellent sales/high volume?

That is correct. I watched it on Speedvision. As part of the deal, they had a matching Fender electric guitar and case to go with the car, painted black with gold stripes to match, and it even said "Shelby GT-H" on it as well. Pretty crazy!

:D If I like what I see and read about the car at its impending debut at this year's NY Auto Show, and if I feel the same way about this car as how I felt about the Mystichrome Cobra when it debuted at the '03 NY Auto Show, then I may be adding this car to my list in my siggy. But we'll see. I only buy something if I REALLY REALLY REALLY like it and have a great gut feeling about it. Like how I felt about my Mystichrome. And that's also how I felt about buying my Tbird too. If the '08 GT500KR truly IS what the '07 GT500 should have been in the first place, and if several improvements have been made/addressed, then I may strongly consider buying it.
But I must say one thing right now. What is it with all S197 headrests, including the GT500?!? Why are they canted at an angle too far forward? It's so uncomfortable, I wish they were adjustable like my Mystichrome. Then for sure, I wouldn't have any complaints about the S197's overall driving comfort.

How much do you think this thing will weigh? I have a feeling, even with a lightweight hood, this thing will still be "a ton of bricks". I think this kind of car could be the perfect opportunity for Ford to build a Z06 eater. Certainly for the expected price it should be. But, alas, I fear not.

You can buy and bolt almost every aspect of these cars on to your stock GT. I would do that before I ever paid that much of a mark up on a Mustang. I personally would put on everything "but" the Cobra badges. I think I would even rondomly select someone out of the crowd at a car show and have them sign my glove box. LOl. I really think the money Shelby raises for chariities is commendable, but the scheme of building a limited number of top of the line vehicles , in order to drive up the price is wrong.
My plan is to pick up a Legend Lime 05 or 06 GT , 5 speed off of a used car lot in a year or two , and then start the modification process. My plain Jane Legend Lime with the Shelby body mods and after market SC will one day pull high 11's or low 12's.
I actually like the idea I saw in a recennt mag. The guy slid a 428 CJ into an 06 GT. It was a thing of beauty.

I am pretty sure you are right. From what I read in AutoWeek they are going to have some type of "lottery" system to decide who gets this car. There is going to be / there already is an extremely high demand for this car as it will be VERY collectable. You probably will never see this car on dealer lots or for even driving on the streets. "How in the world can Ford make something so beautiful and so much in demand, but be in the financial situation they are in now? Someone up there needs to get their head out of their ass and give us more stuff like this."
funny you should ask that, many people get so pissed off at ford for making special edition mustangs with great performance and styling at such a high price (markups) and then give the base model no ground effects, a 210 hp V6 (dodge charger has a 240 V6 engine) and single exhaust, that they dont even want a damn mustang after they make a visit to a ford dealership. after getting jerked around on a GT, I was so fed upItoldthe dealerto give me a damn V6 fully loaded, and if he broke my ballz one more time I was going to piss on the GT's tires!!!! Ford needs to makea specialty vehicle in the low 30G's or high 20G's instead of catering to 1000 lucky people who are willing to blow $100,000+ on a car that Ford probably doesnt even care about!
so fvck them, I bought the V6 instead of the GT, now in 2 years I'll buy a Shelby GT, atleast I'll have some money for the high markup after I sell the sixer.
thats my rant.....sorry.

I now realize why the ford motor company is struggling so much. Even when they come up with a great thing (s197 mustang) they find a way to truely mess it up. I almost wound't be surprised if they started making the mustang into a ricer.
Ok nvm, not even ford would mess up THAT much.

From what I was reading, the hood would not be available for a while through parts, they wouldn't be making much more than 1000 hoods plus a few extra for collision parts. I'd figure it wouldn't be too long before someone made a very similar hood aftermarket though

I think we are forgetting that part of the bad-ness of it is that the rocker panels and the lower portion of the rear bumper are BLACK. I've kicked around just buying some black ones for my Redfire and then going with an all black GTCS style rear fascia. . . but either way the KR is pretty bad aaaaa.

A hood very similar to that was available a year ago from the doomed Dream Car Factory company. Unfortunately, they went under. Their hood was cool..........but just too expensive for me. Otherwise, I'd have one on my 05 right now. Only thing is that their hood was fiberglass......and probably much heavier than the new KR's carbon fiber unit.

I just read an artical on Edmunds and it states that the hood will NOT be available to the public. Now I have no idea what the truth is....but even if it does come out it will be more than a year before we can get them.
I have decided to attempt to create the hood myself usingmy fiberglass GT500 hood as a base. Wish me luck people.
